Holidays in Kersha

Been burning the candle at both ends? Desperate for a break and a few early nights? Kersha has your name all over it. It's set among the forests, rivers and lakes of Tambov Oblast — nice and not too touristy. (We bet you'll feel so relaxed, you'll be under the blankets by sunset!)

It's situated 420 kilometres to the southeast of Moscow, the nation's capital.

Do you want to venture outwards a bit? Bol'shaya Talinka is 7 kilometres to the southwest of Kersha and Pakhotnyy Ugol is 11 kilometres to the north. Jump in the car and discover what's happening out there!

Sitting 35 kilometres to the southwest, Periksa is a place chock-full with activities. G.V.Chicherin Museum, Kirsanov Museum of Local Lore and Morshansk Museum of Local Lore are all quite close. That said, the Inzhavino Museum of Local Lore and Tambov Krai Museum of Medical History are also worthwhile.

If you find yourself stuck in some miserable weather, run for cover in one of the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries and theaters.

Go on a relaxed stroll and feel the sun on your skin at the surrounding area's gardens.

History buffs shouldn't miss the local old towns and fortresses. If this sounds like you, do a bit of research and select one to see first.

You don't need to believe in a higher power to enjoy Kersha's churches, cathedrals, temples and monasteries. Learn more about local belief systems and find some calm at the same time.

There's no better way to get to know a place than to literally take a bite out of it! You're invited to explore Tambov Oblast by sampling some of its top food and drink.

Do you enjoy rye? How about oats? Whether you're into them or not, they are two ingredients regularly used in the cuisine here.

Dessert is always a good idea, so why not tuck into some lymonnyk (lemon pie)? It's worth every scrumptious calorie!

It can be tough to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to quality beers, but one must-try brew is Baltika Premium Lager. Grab a glass and bottoms up!

Knowing even just a few expressions in the local language will make your visit to the Tambov Oblast region that little bit smoother. Try to get your lips around 'Za zdarov'e!'. It means 'cheers/good health!'. One more common phrase is 'Privét!' ('hello').

Celebrated throughout the whole country, Russia Day is held on the 12th of June. If you're fortunate enough to be here during this important day, it'll be difficult not to get swept up in all the excitement!

With just a handful of your travel allowance remaining in your wallet and some wonderful memories that will last a lifetime, say one last "Poka!" to Kersha.

If you'll be travelling via air, you'll likely be using Domodedovo International Airport (DME). It's 380 kilometres to the northwest. Pack up your suitcase, find the best route and set your alarm clock!
