Creekview Suite at Tanager Brook Inn in the Heart of Black Hills by Mt. Rushmore

Our beautiful vacation rental has been a family journey that brought 3 generations together. We finished renovating the Creekview suit in 2020. The unit has one cozy bedroom with a queen size bed, a set of bunk beds and a queen size Murphy bed.
The kitchen is equipped with a full size fridge, a 2 burner electric cooking top, a microwave and a convection oven. There is also a gas grill on the front porch if you feel like burgers, hot dogs or even steak!
There are two electric fireplaces: one in the dining room and one in the living room. They create nice ambiance and put out a fair amount of heat. Make yourself a hot cup of coffee or tea and enjoy the view of the beautiful Battle Creek from the panoramic windows.
Listen to the summer birds and the quiet mumbling of the creek by a camp fire.
We are located right in the middle of all the fun the Black Hills have to offer. 10 minute drive would take you to Mt. Rushmore, Bear Country, Reptile Gardens and many lakes and hiking trails.
Come spend your summer vacation at the hidden gem of the United States of America.
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned vacation home, which features a fireplace and a Smart TV. There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator and a microwave. Complimentary wireless internet access is available to keep you connected.
Take in the views from a garden and make use of amenities such as barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Black Hills bucket list
Unknowingly arrived during Sturgis Rally so unexpectedly inundated with bikers. Even though it was more crowded than we expected we had a nice time in the area. Great hiking and we enjoyed Crazy Horse and Mt Rushmore. Hosts were excellent and the cabin was cozy.

Nice location
This place is very clean and quiet. Nice views in the backyard. Bring a coffee maker if you like to make coffee instead of using pods. It’s more of a duplex than a single residence. Neighbors were really nice though.

Tanager Brook Inn
Perfect location for seeing the areas main attractions. Only minutes from Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer & more. Our kids loved the creek in the back & seeing the old time steam engine train come by a couple times a day. The house is a duplex, but that didn’t have any negative impact on our stay.

Comfortable Spot in a Great Location
The property was clean and all ready for us, close to Custer State Park, Mt Rushmore, and hiking trails in the Black Hills. A touring train runs along the stream behind the house. Kitchen has a K-cup style coffee machine- you should bring coffee and tea if you want it. Restaurants and souvenirs are close by in Keystone, but not toiletries, groceries, and other basic supplies, so pack carefully.

Awesome house in an awesome location
Me and my now fiancé stayed here from October 19th-22nd and has an absolute blast! The house is in the perfect location tucked in the mountains, close yet far enough away from the city. I would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing place to stay!

Perfect Location, Perfect Property
This property sits on a small creek and right below the tracks where the 1880 train passes a couple of times per day. So fun to watch the ducks play in the creek and wave at the train. There are also some hens that greet you. They were a joy! The property is perfectly updated and all necessary amenities are provided. Grill for quick meals. Keurig coffee pot. All necessary kitchen utensils. The Murphy bed has a very comfortable mattress. The bunk beds also have cushy mattresses. The private bedroom has a large closet and also a great mattress. Owners were attentive and take very good care of the place. Highly recommend this location in the middle of so many Black Hills stops. Our stay was perfect!

Property owners were great at communicating and answering questions before the visit, even providing a high chair without us asking. Immaculately clean, quiet, peaceful, and a short drive to tons of activities. Highly recommend.

Nice Cozy Place - Not private
We did enjoy staying at the property. Unfortunately, we came a couple days after a large snow so we couldn't see the fire pit or river (which is not their fault). But it is in a great location. Also right after we checked in a man knocked on our door to greet us (was just me and my best friend, both female). I was under the impression this was a private property so I didn't realize we would be attached to the owners. However, there was a door locked in the house and I think it leads to their unit; I didn't like that. But they were very nice. Only real complaints I have is some of the dishes were not clean and the water has sulfur, and the smell is very strong when taking a shower; make sure you bring water bottles! But overall we had a good time and the location is minutes from awesome destination spots. For the price I would still recommend!

Great place to stay
I found this property very nice. It was a little hard to find in the dark (no street lights and the address doesn't match on GPS properly), however the owner does tell you how to find it. Its bigger than the pictures make it look and very comfortable. I would highly recommend staying here.

Very nice, clean cabin, easy access to sites, would have preferred a more private location
This is a very nice cabin that has been recently remodeled. It's a modern cabin, extremely spacious and nicely decorated to feel homey. It was extremely clean. It would be a great cabin for a family as there are two full beds (one is a Murphy bed) and twin bunk beds. It has good sized rooms and a well-equipped kitchen. The bath was clean and updated nicely but a rather small shower with only a handheld showerhead that was almost too high to reach and very awkward if you didn't want to get your hair wet or wanted to shave your legs. I'm not sure how short adults or children could reach it. Visitors should be aware that this cabin is a duplex with the owner and family living next door. The walls are a bit thin for sound as we could clearly hear a baby crying quite a lot during the mornings and evenings when we were there, a toddler calling out and quite a bit of stairway climbing and walking noises. The toddler did play right outside of our door on the deck a few times when we were there. The door is glass so not extremely private and there was also a small window facing the road without a blind or curtain. You could clearly see inside the cabin from the road at night (we placed a couple of bags over the window). The cabin is located, literally, right beside Old Hill City road on a sharp curve and the parallel driveway is inches from the road. The way the driveway is located along the curve, you have to blindly pull out into the oncoming lane of traffic, making it feel a bit dangerous for pulling onto the road. There was a beautiful backyard with a creek and a fire pit but the area was somewhat unkempt and overgrown, needing to be mown. We were just hoping for more privacy and some quiet evening deck time. It's hard to determine some things prior to a stay. As far as accessibility to attractions, the location was great for Mt. Rushmore, Keystone, Custer and Custer State Park. Overall our experience was pretty good but these are just a few things that some people may want to know ahead of their stay. Thank you to the owners for good, prompt communication and a nice chat on site. You have a lovely cabin that you have put a lot of work into.

The cabin was perfect for our family of 4. It was very clean and and larger in person vs. the photos. How often is that the case? The hosts were great and very friendly. The Custer Wolf was hands down the best food/wine/beer in the Southern Black Hills. Book any cave tours ahead of time. Walking up will result in a long wait or no open spots.

The Tanager Brook Inn is an awesome place to day when visiting Mount Rushmore! Beautifully decorated, cozy and comfy after a long day sightseeing. The kitchenette has everything you need for a convenient breakfast or dinner at home. Only minutes to Keystone and Mount Rushmore. I would definitely stay here again when visiting the Black Hills!
