Holidays in Khui

When you see totally gorgeous vistas plastered over every TV channel, it's hard not to be too jelly. So why not spoil yourself with a trip to Khui and experience the postcard-perfect rural landscapes, forests and mountains of Nakhon Ratchasima?

It lies 310 kilometres northeast of Bangkok, Thailand's capital city.

Spend some time relaxing in nature at Khao Kradong Forest. It's situated just 50 kilometres out of Khui. Inhale the fresh, clean air and take a moment to simply slow down.

If you're the sort of traveller who loves becoming immersed in the vibe of the area you're visiting, I-Mobile Stadium should be number one on your to-do list. Investigate what live games are on while you're here and roar along with keen local sports fans. You'll find the arena 45 kilometres away in Buri Ram.

Suan Pa Dong Kheng Park and Khu Muang District Office are close to the centre of Khu Mueang, 17 kilometres to the southeast of Khui. Why not go there and take a look?

Surin is located 85 kilometres away from Khui and is an essential part of the local region. Nearby attractions include the Wat Burapharam, Sura Wittayakarn School and Surin Plaza. Keen for more? City Pillar Shrine and the Surindra Rajabhat University are also within easy reach.

Don't know where to start first? Sometimes the best way to take it all in is to hop aboard a tour or two. The region offers great guided nature walks, city walking tours and culinary tours.

You're sure to find loads of interesting things packed into the region's nature museums and craft workshops.

It's hard to think of a more pleasant way to discover the local area than by taking in its open-air markets.

Delight your inner history nerd by exploring some of the nearby traditional villages, old towns and historic palaces. They're all excellent places to find out some secrets about the region's past.

Learn about the area's religion and perhaps even get back in touch with your spiritual side by paying a visit to one of Khui's temples and shrines.

Credit cards? Check. Passport? Check. But have you brought your appetite? With some delicious food and drink to indulge in around here, it's the one thing you won't want to leave at home.

Searching for a traditional Khui eating experience? There are some specialties you shouldn't miss, such as khao phat nam phrik long ruea (rice, chili and duck’s eggs) and khao phat nam phrik long ruea (rice, chili and duck’s eggs).

Your time in Khui will certainly be more engaging if you take the time to master a few of the local expressions. To start with, try to pronounce 'Kŏr hâi dern taang doi sà-wàt-dì-pâap'. This means 'have a nice trip'. One more to keep in mind is 'Pôot cháa long nòi', which means 'please speak more slowly'.

Celebrated throughout the country, Birthday of King Phumiphon is held each year on the 5th of December. If you're fortunate enough to be here on this important day, it'll be hard not to get swept up in all the action!

Before you pack up your belongings and wave "Laa gòn ná", why not spend the last bits of your holiday allowance and buy yourself some mementos of Khui?

If you'll be flying in and out, you'll likely be using Siem Reap International Airport (REP). It's 240 kilometres to the southeast. Pack up your suitcase, find a convenient route and set that alarm!
