Holidays in Kichisaka

Got a nasty case of the travel bug? Don't worry — we've got the perfect cure. Book a ticket to Kichisaka and you'll be better in no time!

The well-known city of Okayama is within reach of Kichisaka. You will find this busy centre 170 kilometres to the southwest.

You might encounter some seashells to add to your collection as you stroll along the shore at Goshiki Beach Park.

Break out on a journey to some nearby natural sights. 50 kilometres out of Kichisaka, Yuhigaura Hot Springs is waiting to be explored. Ono Dam, 25 kilometres away, is another pleasant place to kick back and relax.

Are you curious about the area's religious side? Spend some time at the Kongoin Temple.

Spend your days alternating between the icy slopes and a seat beside the fireplace at Wakasu Kogen Oya Ski Area and Wakasa Hyounosen Ski Area. From first timers to the experienced, there's something for everyone to enjoy at these snowy wonderlands.

Goro Sky Tower and Maizuru Harbor are close to the middle of Maizuru, 9 kilometres to the west. Eager for more? Miyazu, 25 kilometres to the northwest of Kichisaka, has the ShishizakiInari Temple and the Chionji Temple.

Want to go and see the Jinguji Temple, the Hagaji Temple and the Enshoji Temple? They're all not far from Obama, 25 kilometres to the east. Wakasa Fisherman's Wharf and the Miketsukuni Wakasa Obama Food Culture Museum are also close by and ought to be included in your itinerary.

Eating is one of life's greatest pleasures, and since you're reading this, we guess you think travel is too. Combine your excitement for both by going out and tasting the local food and drink offerings at some of the bars, restaurants and cafés in town.

Beef and noodles are two popular ingredients used in many dishes here. If you don't have a love for them already, you will by the end of your getaway!

Ask one of the locals what they recommend eating and tempura (deep fried seafood or vegetables) will likely be the first thing they mention. Yudofu (tofu simmered with kelp) is another regional signature you should keep an eye out for.

Dessert is always OK on holiday, so why not treat yourself to some anpan (sweet roll)? It's worth every magnificent calorie!

If you truly want to see the big pitcher, grab the hopportunity to toss back a beer. Schooner rather than later! Awful beer puns aside, don't forget to try Asahi Premium Beer Jukusen, one of the top local brews.

Neat or on the rocks — the barkeeper ought to know the tastiest way to enjoy junmaishu. If the evening calls for something with a bit more of a punch, it should be the first drink you order!

Learning how to say a handful of expressions in the local tongue will make your visit to the Kyoto region that little bit less challenging. 'Wakarimasen' means 'I don't understand'. One more common phrase is 'お誕生日おめでとうございます(otanjōbi omedetō gozaimasu)' ('happy birthday').

Celebrated throughout the country, Birthday of Emperor Akihito is held each year on the 23rd of December. If you're going to be here at this time, it'll be difficult not to get swept up in the festivities!

Like all good things, your trip to Kichisaka will eventually come to an end. When it's finally time to head off, say a last "Sayōnara" and spend your remaining holiday allowance on some unique souvenirs.

If you're flying back home, it's probably wise to plan your route to the terminal in advance. From the centre of Kichisaka, you'll need to journey some 75 kilometres south to Itami Airport (ITM), the closest airport.

It's found in Maizuru, a lovely spot to rest your weary head.
