It is in the centre of Victoria's Volcanic plains; dotted with the geological remains of our turbulent past volcanoes. In fact the town sits on the side of the spectacular Tower Hill Volcano. This was Australia's first State Nature Reserve situated within the large crater lake; a caldera, after the Volcano exploded. It is punctuated with many walking paths and spectacular landscapes and home to many of Australia's wildlife and fauna. kangaroos, wallabies, emus, koalas, reptiles and many water birds abound.
UNESCO World Heritage Listed Budj Bim is under an hour's drive from Koroit. It is a fascinating and unique place with universal heritage values that demonstrate how our Gunditjmara people worked with the natural resources and environment of the Victorian south west region to establish a permanent place of human society over the past 30,000 years and beyond.
Two of Victoria's most popular coastal holiday spots are but 15 minutes’ drive from Koroit. Warrnambool, a city of 35,000 full of amenities, beautiful beaches, eateries and entertainment for families and all ages. There's something for everyone. While Port Fairy, previously named as The World's Most Liveable Small Town, is steeped in our maritime history and early settlement. It is jam packed with restaurants, shops and facilities. Outstanding beaches, amateur fishing opportunities, sporting facilities, regular festivals celebrating all forms of artisan exploits and a very popular Golf Course have the town buzzing year round.
But if you want somewhere a bit more chilled that has everything at your doorstep Koroit is truly the place to be. Great restaurants, takeaways, 2 pubs, a huge supermarket, bakery, brewery, wine and gin bar, antiques and opshops all within 5-minute walk from our front door.
We get many bicycle riders coming through using Koroit as the perfect stopover on the Warrnambool to Port Fairy Rail Trail. A medium to easy ride through the country side along the old railway route that closed in the early 1970s.
