First things first: If you are looking for square corners, and sterile luxury, we recommend you look at other options in Lake City. That said, if your idea of the mountains is to percolate coffee, fry some fish on cast iron, and relax dad-style in an old-school easy chair in front of an honest fire, this is the place for you.

Constructed in 1948, this home is full of memories. We kept the soul—you’ll find imperfect floors and history on the walls—but we have upgraded the actual living experience a good deal. We kept the old school character and added a bit of Scandinavian alpine inspiration. The house comes with robust Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speakers, and a Smart TV as well, in case you need to plug in for a minute or two.

You are blocks from Gold Medal fly fishing on the Lake Fork and minutes from Lake San Cristobal for paddle boarding or casting from the shore. Trailheads in town will get you up to 12,000' before you know it, and you're a short drive to the five 14ers.

Downtown's dining, town park and ice cream(!) is one block away. No driving required after a long day on the trail. Enjoy your meal and a leisurely stroll home, or cook dinner in the vintage kitchen.

Sleeping Arrangements

- Main Bedroom: Queen size bed for two.

- The Viking Bunk Room: Handmade Norwegian bunk beds. Kids young and old are going to want to arm wrestle for these.

- The Loft: A cozy double bed for overflow or private sleeping (hint: it's the coziest spot in the cabin).
