No lights on the hotel sign almost missed turn at night. Lobby was dark and floor was dirty made me wonder what I was in for. Hotel room was clean. Overall property needed some attention on the outside and entry lobby.

The hotel was clean and the room we stayed in (wheelchair accessible- only because it was the room Expedia showed us)!was spacious and comfortable. The bed is placed very close to the window with the heater so both my wife and I were up repeatedly to drink because we were so dry. The location is bad - I’m there is nothing walkable. You can drive a 2-minutes to lots of restaurants and Walmart - but you cannot walk to any of them.

The location - but the room was not great- we settled in and discovered that the toilet tank was broken and was not flashing - the phones were broken and didn’t work- we had to go down to request another room which we were given - same thing with the phones - broken - that’s unexpectable - in an emergency you can’t contact the front desk !!

On thing that was inconvenient was the large sign out front was unlit. I drove by 3 times. The front desk person didn't know why, or how to turn it on.

The property was fine. Front desk service was good, always friendly. Breakfast needed a change up. We were there for 4 mornings and breakfast was the same every day. Some bacon or sausage would be nice. Also some fresh fruit and not the canned peaches every day. Donuts and bagels exactly the same and sometimes still frozen. Room cleaning was very poor. One day we got no service at all. Twice I had to go ask for fresh towels and I had to go to the front desk for toilet paper as none was ever replaced and the girl had none on her cart. The price was excellent but service could still use an upgrade.

The property was difficult to find as the sign outside has no lights on it after dark. Also there was a faulty fire alarm issue that went off the entire evening because it required a specialist to fix. Between the blaring alarm and flashing lights in my room I had a terrible night’s sleep.

Poor service and double billing
The stay was fine. We were in the area for only one night, and the room was adequate. The included breakfast was mediocre. It was as expected for the price. My issue is that I paid for the booking through hotels.com, and the Hawthorn Inn charged me for the stay a second time when we checked out. I have spoken with the hotel and with a rep from hotels.com, and provided multiple documentations of the double charge, and no one has issued a refund. The hotel refuses to acknowledge that they charged my card despite providing copies of my credit card statement.
