Holidays in Las Majadas

When chucking a sickie becomes way too simple, it's time to escape the corporate treadmill and say hello to Las Majadas!

It's located 140 kilometres east of Madrid, the capital of Spain.

Mother Nature's artwork can be witnessed in many places around Las Majadas. Just 11 kilometres away, Ciudad Encantada is an excellent place to start. Salto de Poveda sits 40 kilometres away and is another favourite spot to find some peace and quiet.

Don't miss the impressive landscapes of Ventana del Diabolo. It's one of the best places to take advantage of a sunny day.

Whether you're keen to spend the majority of your time on the black diamond runs or the beginners' blue runs, you'll love the white, fluffy snow at Javalambre Ski Resort.

How about swinging by Alleys of Stone? It's a lovely place to while away some extra time.

If you want to do some exploring, add a trip to Fresneda de la Sierra to your itinerary. This place is 16 kilometres to the northwest and is home to San Millan Parish and Escabas Lake. Need more ideas? La Frontera is 20 kilometres to the northwest of Las Majadas and is known for Canamares Plaza and Hoz de Priego.

Do a little shopping and visit some attractions in Cuenca. This place is 30 kilometres away and not too far from Cuenca Cathedral, the Cuenca Museum and the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art. That being said, you shouldn't miss San Pablo Footbridge and Castile-La Mancha Science Museum either.

Would you like to nibble, nip, chomp, chew and drink your way across Cuenca? A world of unique flavours awaits you here, so get on your stretchiest jeans and bon appétit!

Want to know some of the typical ingredients used in cooking here? Prepare to be served olive oil and garlic in a few of your meals.

No true culinary adventurer would leave Las Majadas without eating at least one of the signature recipes, such as migas (spiced breadcrumbs withpork ribs) and cochifritos (lamb or goat with seasonings).

If you're in it for dessert, we don't think you'll be disappointed. Try alajú (wafer and almond slice), an enticing treat that's sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Ask any experienced traveller and they'll tell you that the simplest way to enhance your getaway is to learn how to say a handful of the local phrases. Try to articulate '¡Buena suerte!'. It means 'good luck'. One more common phrase is '¡Perdón!' ('excuse me').

Pencil the 12th of October in your schedule. To the locals, this means just one thing — National Day. A notable day of festivities, this is a great time to travel to the country.

When it comes time to pack up your belongings, spend the last of your holiday allowance and say "Hasta la vista" to Las Majadas.

With a bit of preparation, making your way to Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD), the closest airport, won't be too hard. It's 130 kilometres west of the centre of Las Majadas.

Decent hotel in beautiful city
"Lovely hotel and very friendly & helpful staff. I ate here both nights - first night a la carte, second the set menu. The a la carte food is fantastic but the set menu was just average. Room a decent size, though bathroom could do with an update. Bit noisy from corridor, but overall a good hotel ..."
