How about meeting a few locals while you're in town? Shouldn't be too hard. Chamonix-Mont-Blanc is home to around 11,000 people. You'll find Le Tour 10 kilometres northeast of the city's centre. From Cointrin International Airport, be prepared to travel 70 kilometres to the east. You'll be in a warm bed before you it!

Sea of Ice and Domaine de Balme Ski Area are two not-to-be-missed attractions, and as luck would have it, they're a short commute away. Lac Cornu and the Flegere Cable Car should also keep you happily entertained.
