Plan a day to chill out at Hellesylt Beach, 25 kilometres to the north.

You won't need to journey too far to witness some nice natural sights. Hop in the car and make your way over to Boyabreen, 40 kilometres away from Loen, for a relaxed day. Or maybe Briksdalbreen is more your type of thing? You'll find it 20 kilometres away.

Leave a trail of white powder behind you as you tear down the trails at Hafslo Ski Centre. Powder fiends should also make the trip to Sogndal Ski Centre.

Head 20 kilometres to the northwest and you'll stumble upon Hornindal. It's regarded for some awesome attractions, including Hornindal Church and the Anders Svor Museum.

Alesund Aquarium, Sukkertoppen and Alesund Church are all pretty close to Alesund, 75 kilometres to the northwest. Need a few more reasons to visit? The Alesund Museum and the Jugendstilsenteret are not far away either.

To really experience a destination is to immerse yourself in its food and drink, so get ready to gnaw, nibble, sip and swig your way across Sogn og Fjordane. The only thing you need to take with you is a decent appetite!

Once you settle in and skim through a restaurant or café menu, you'll notice that moose and reindeer are two ingredients commonly used in local cooking.

There's always a local meal or two that you've absolutely got to try, and during your time in Loen, raspeballer (potato dumplings) with sausage is among them. Svinekoteletter (pork chops) is another culinary classic that's not to be missed.
