Mixed Review
My wife & I & five couples from our community spent a week here. We are in our 60s & 70s so that plays a part in this review. There was much to like about the villa but also much to dislike.
Location- The villa was located in a great location in Tuscany. We were five minutes from a local supermarket where we could find anything we needed for the week; about 15-20 minutes from Lucca; 45 to 60 minutes from Florence & Pisa; and about an hour & a half to Sienna to our south.
Setting- The villa is situated half way up a mountain overlooking several small towns. The view is beautiful & the grounds are magnificent. There is a beautiful swimming pool as well as a pool house with exercise equipment; and a BBQ grill.
Layout Of The Villa & Property- While it is one house, it actually comprises several small “apartments”, each with its own small kitchen & bathrooms. None of the bathrooms were “en-suite”. Three of the “apartments” were on the main floor but there are a few steps for each level. One of the apartments is on the lower level, down several steps. Keep this in mind if you have people who have trouble going up and down steps. While the pool was large and beautiful, it was at the bottom of the property & I counted over 40 steps that you needed to take down to the pool. The BBQ was even further away, so it was very inconvenient to have any meals by the pool.
Amenities- There is a TV and wi-fi but the TV is about the size of a large computer monitor & it is located in a small sitting room that can only accommodate a few people. The wi-fi router was located in the same area but you could only get wi-fi if you were sitting right there. You could not get wi-fi anywhere else in the house.
Furnishings- While we recognize that this is a very old property, the furniture is old & ratty! There is a large rug in the main living room but it does not have any padding underneath so you can slip if you step on it. And there were bugs in some of the mattresses & a few of our group were bitten by them. The bathrooms were all nice but the towels were very thin, some with holes in them. And while the kitchens were OK, the appliances were very old & there were a hodge-podge of utensils to use.
Parking- There is parking but you can't park outside the main level. You have to park at the bottom & back of the property & walk up a small hill to the bottom of the house & then several steps up to the main level.
The owner needs to spend a few euros to upgrade this property!
