The hotel is more of a bed and breakfast, so don't expect 5-star luxury, but that's not why you're going there. The building is really unique, you feel like you're back in time with the great decor. Since I was solo, I got one of the smaller rooms. It's not big and it's not updated, but that isn't what I was after, I was after the unique experience of staying in a castle in this historic area.
It's a great experience to stay in such an incredible building in a magnificent area. It's a great walk down to restaurants or just into the tiny town below.
I had to take a taxi from Maastricht train station because I was traveling by train and had no car. It will cost you about 25-30 euro to get out there, and if you want to go anywhere other than the immediate area you'll have to arrange to have a car come take you. I had a taxi drop me off and the owner of the hotel recommended a car service with whom I made an online reservation, and they were there right on time to take me back into Maastricht when I needed them to be.
Also, it's important to keep your expectations in check: you're not going to get a warm, individual breakfast; it's a typical European basic breakfast of cheeses, cold sliced meats, breads, cereals and yoghurt.
If you're looking for a hotel in the area for a night or two, this is a great place to stay. It's definitely an experience you'll remember!
