Beach front twin home - central courtyard - great for families and large groups

Casa Que Canta (House that Sings) is a Spanish style villa with a central courtyard and 2nd level terrace facing the ocean. The bedrooms are all on the 2nd level - each has a terrace and are fully airconditioned. We also have a backup generator for the occasional power outage. Two have a king beds, two have queens and twins.. We also offer on site all inclusive meals The villa is a located 5 miles north of Mahahual Mexico. The beaches are white sand with a coral reef just 250 yards off shore. Ideal for swimming and sun bathing. Area is know for world class snorkeling and diving. Reef in front of the property has a number of beautiful corral heads.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ENTIRE CARIBBEAN COST IS HAVING ISSUES WITH SARGASSO SEA WEED AT TIMES. NO WAY TO PREDICT BUT WHEN PRESENT CAN MAKE SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND HAS A BAD ODOR. Snorkeling & dive trips also available in nearby Mahahual. There are many restaurants, fun shops, & great Mayan ruins near by. If you like to fish there is both world class Fly fishing for Tarpon and Bonefish and excellent off shore fishing available for charter in town. Fishing is consistently good. Things to do at Casa Que Canta: The area is rich in Mayan culture and history. Nearby ruins of Chacchoben are a must visit along with Kohonlich and Dzibenache if you have time. Lake Bacalar and the old Spanish fort also make a great day trip. The area is also rich in Cennotes some of which are almost too beautiful to describe. Hidden Worlds Cenote has been featured on a National Geographic special.
Majahual itself is a fast growing Mexican fishing village with many good restaurants and nice shops. Very busy on cruise ship days, but extremely quiet in between. Beaches are wonderful.
Water Sports: Traveling to Mexico for many is all about the Ocean and the beach. The Costa Maya is blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico - almost all of them protected by the worlds 2nd largest barrier reef. The reef at Casa Que Canta is only 200 meters off shore. This means the swimming is exceptional - no currents - no rip tides - extremely safe even for small children. The waves are very light and the depth drops off slowly - you can walk out 100 meters and still be waist high. The reef provides great snorkeling - tons of corral - fish - even an occasional lobster if you watch closely. The nearby fisherman go out almost everyday and can provide fresh fish for use on the grill. Or if you like bring a spear gun and try getting your own.
Snorkeling from the kayaks we have is great on the calmer days and very safe.
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned villa, which features a private pool. There's a private balcony. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access is available to keep you connected.
Don't miss out on recreational opportunities including a water park and an outdoor pool.
Breakfast is available for a fee.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Beautiful private getaway
Our stay at the beachfront twin home, was so peaceful and amazing. From the beautiful sunrises in the morning to the gorgeous moonrise at night. There were multiple sitting areas facing the beach making for a restful congregation place for everyone to enjoy. The location was a short distance from Mahahual, yet far enough away from crowds and people in general. We loved having bathrooms for each bedroom and two downstairs. Our host Emanuel and Sandra were very gracious and attentive to all our needs. One day they made fresh conch ceviche. The only downside was the cleanliness of the beach. It was very sad to see so much trash littering the front of the house. It seems like some effort could be made to keep the trash picked up there daily. This was a beautiful location for our group of 7 to spend 8 nights at. Thank you for your hospitality.

Great remote retreat
If you are independent and like remoteness, this is the property for you! There is a bit of a rough road for the last few hundred meters to access the property and I would highly recommend you have a vehicle. The kitchens are well set up and the open living space is roomy. There is no TV but there is internet on the main floor so you can stream on your own devices. There is no cellular reception. This makes the property ideal for big meals and lots of visiting. The beach is secluded any we only saw a few fisherman over our 2 month stay. Beds are comfortable and the rooms are air conditioned.Emanuel (caretaker) and Gabe are excellent local experts and will help to keep the aging faculty running (sun and wind are tough on the house).Highly recommend.

Very cool property!
This was a very cool property that you can tell was designed and built with a lot of love and care. The location was amazing if you are looking for more of a remote place with lots of privacy (we were). The beach was nice and the water and reef in front of the house were awesome. Great place to swim, snorkel, and even spear fish! The design - 3 story with living/kitchen on the 1st floor, sleeping/bathing on 2nd floor, and pool/house utilities on 3rd floor proved to be comforting - as hurricane Beryl decided to make an appearance halfway through our stay. We had a top of the line generator and safety on the second (and third) floor in the case of storm surge or flooding (didn't happen). We felt comfortable sheltering in place and riding out the storm - house was SOLID (concrete construction with stucco and tile inlay). We were very lucky as the sargassum (seaweed) was minimal during our stay. The one (small) negative was the cleanliness of the house. It could have done with a deep cleaning prior to us showing up (We ended up doing it ourselves). Also, the beach was not cleaned prior to our arrival and was covered in sargassum and debree. Manuel took care of it the day after our arrival, but we did lose most of a full day of beach use. Manuel (caretaker) was very nice and helpful. He can answer any of your questions and is a font of information about the town and surrounding area. he helped us with our visit to the local Mayan ruins and the lake town of Bacalar

Private paradise
We had a lovely stay with two families including kiddos ages 2, 3, 4. We loved the privacy on the beach front and how well they took care of the grounds and kept the beach clean for us so we could enjoy the sand and water. The kayaks were a fun bonus to paddle around the water with the kids. The host was so helpful and responsive when needed. The town was never too busy or closed up, we did lots of cooking at the house and could have used a few more kitchen conveniences but were able to manage and eat well. The house was clean in general but could use a deep clean. I did not see the washer for clothes but also never asked. For the price, location and private beach we were very happy and would stay here again!

Could not stay
We arrived at the home and the caretaker did not know we were coming. The pool was empty and filthy with tile falling off. All the lounge chairs outside were broken. Trash on beach, though I know it is an issue for the area. It would probably been taken care of if they knew we were coming. Had small children and was not safe for them. Oven on bricks and BBQ outside was awful. The owner would not return $600 of our payment saying VRBO keeps that. When i contacted VRBO, they stated they do not do that . Owner refused to give back payment in full. Sent VRBO pictures and they agreed property was not what was advertised. The place does not look like pictures in the description.

Amazingly secluded
It really is a lovely place in the world... having an entire beach to yourself to watch the birds fly past and sit back and relax. The property managers are super helpful and Sandra made us a really delicious cerviche one day. The property could do with a bit of TLC in a few areas (e.g. the BBQ was pretty unusable) and the kitchen is a bit rustic. Being in such a quiet and serene location made up for it though. Joe did say that the saltwater air does affect appliances but it was unfortunate that the fridge/freezer stopped working during our visit. These things do happen and it was good that we were able to use the other fridge on the other side of the property... and noticed that a new appliance had arrived on the day we were leaving.

A nice slice of paradise
My wife and I spent a week at Casa Que Canta and overall it was a great experience. Sandra and Emanuel the caretakers were fantastic hosts and made us dinner every night. Triggerfish, chicken mole, ceviche was off the hook. Banida the dog kept us company on a long walk to check out the neighborhood. The villa was spacious and as pictured. Climate change has brought much more Sargasso weed to Quinta Roo. A bummer for all, but the winds moved it out one day and you really got a good feel for how nice this place is. The village of Mahahual is very nice, Friday it was quiet without the cruise ship traffic. We took advantage of that and purchased poolside/bar afternoon option at a hotel on the playa and chilled all afternoon watching the world go by. It was pretty windy most of the week we were there, so we drove to see the Ruins one day, Cenote Azul the next, as well as hung out at this nice beach club on Lake Bacalar. Overall it was a great experience for us and we would come back again.

Nice property but dated and Very remote
Only after the booking did we get the list of the things in the things in the jungle to be aware of. But not to worry we only in counted the things not on the list. When we arrived there was a 3 ‘ snake in the living room. They told us a small rattle that would probably not bit At night lots of small geckos on the walls and ceilings which is fine we are very used to them. But huge bull frog and several crabs Just a little uneasy in the dark. Warning of scorpion if you leave anything on the floor or sand. The beach has three lounge chairs. One broken. The beach is not like the picture at all. Lots of beach washed away plus huge amount of seaweed both washed up on the beach 6’ to 8 ‘. And 10 to 15’ of seaweed floating in the water you had to go through to get into the water. Good thing we were not driving a car as the road in was Horrible huge holes that we had to drive around even in a mini van. Now the GOOD part. Very quiet and relaxing and the caretakers are AMAZING. Very helpful. And friendly. They really make the property. They made us supper one night FANTASTIC. King fish cooked Vega plus rice and beans and pico. Cut open fresh coconuts for us And even made us two kinds of ceviche. As for Mahahual everything closes up by 6 pm only beach clubs during the day when the cruise ships are in town. Sometimes 3 at a time All in all a ok visit. Would I every go back or rent this property for my family NO. Did it once not again.

We enjoyed our time in Mahahual and staying at Casa Que Canta. The house is spacious. We enjoyed visiting with the owner and caretakers. Sandra made a wonderdul meal for us. One of the best VRBO's in the area
We've stayed at a number of places along the coast near Mahahual. This is at the top of our list. It is spacious and well-designed with excellent caretakers. It is also much closer to town than other properties that are similar. The beach is not as good for swimming and walking than a other places, but overall this is great place and a good deal.

Great house and location just what we were looking for.
I searched high and low for a place "away from everything" and this property is, yet only 10 minute's drive to the small town of Mahahual. (limited shopping, do your shopping in Playa del Carmen, stock up - especially on wine and beer) The road here is good, so easy in and out. We always had the beach to ourselves and comfortable beach furniture. Good snorkeling is about a half hour's drive away, and this was important to us; you can snorkel the reef in front of the property and use kayaks to get to it but it takes a good 20 minutes to paddle out. The house is spacious and well kept, Joe, the owner is present for questions and assistance, (but he is discreet and generally not in the guest's space) he lives in his part of the house. The Mayan house -helpers were super, really lovely helpful and cheerful people who prepared us excellent meals most nights; we bought fish and they BBQed it, probably some of the best lobster and fish I have ever had. The house has comfortable spaces as described on the site. All rooms are spacious and well kept, ample towels and beach towels are supplied. I would happily send friends and family to stay here.

Wonderful vacation spot!
We highly recommend this property! We are still traveling and its hard to fully describe all the things we loved about this stay while typing on a cell phone, but I will try. From the beautiful private beach, to the snorkeling adventures 200 meters offshore, from the wonderful meals prepared by the excellent veladores, Sandra and Emmanuel, to the great, lively conversations with our host Joe, from the nature encounters with iguana and hermit crabs to the starry nights and dramatic lightning storms from the rooftop plunge pool, it was all this and much more. Thank you Joe, Sandra and Emanuel! Angie, Steve, Tara and Glen

Would have been 5* but...
It’s a great house right on the beach. Joe and his caretakers Sandra and Emanuel were very welcoming and available. You have to be aware that Joe lives in half of the house and as it is not totally separate does use the “communal” areas. The bedrooms and bathrooms are lovely, nicely done and clean. Some work needed in the kitchen. The sink and tap could do with replacing as could the cooker. The fridge works perfectly but doesn’t look very good. There weren’t 4 wine glasses and not really any serving dishes This is all simple stuff and probably sounds petty. We did enjoy our stay but sometimes it’s the little things that make a stay perfect.

Beautiful and spacious beach destination!
We had a wonderful time in Joe's place just north of Mahahual. The property is spacious with an inner courtyard and many different places to relax and rejuvenate. Joe was a great host with the perfect balance of engagement and respect of our privacy. We wondered how it would be to have him on the property (he lives there, too). We felt completely safe and loved the many beautiful touches in and around the property. The stunning landscaping added to the sense of serenity and tranquility at this property. Sandra and Emanuel were delightful caretakers!

Far from luxury but a great experience
Much can be said about this place. From the lack of maintenance and lack of in-depth cleanliness. Doors that do not lock, oven that does not heat, bbq that is rusted to a point where it is unusable. In Mahahual it is not possible to buy meat, fish or vegetables. We bought pizza and reheated on a pan. The beds are hard and short. The cat took a bite of both my son and mother-in-law. Looked hungry maybe because the dogs ate it’s food. The seaweed was indeed annoying (smelling and an obstacle in the water) but we were prepared for that. When all this is said and when you do not focus on it you can have a great time here of the beaten track in a house that truly could be luxurious. The view is wonderful, the caretakers are nice. A bit overpriced considering the many points not to focus on. And would therefore not go again.

Very nice stay
We stayed at Joes home for a week and we had a wonderful time. His home worked well for us as it was close to town yet away enough. Nice little beach to relax and enjoy morning coffee. The bedrooms were large and the showers had great hot water and pressure, which is rare down there. Joe was very accommodating and hospitable. His caretakers were very nice but the communication barrier kept us from visiting much with them. Although one day they brought us out to the beach, a beautiful plate of delicious ceviche they had made.
