Holidays in Mangga Besar

All of us know that travel is life. So dig out your suitcase, kiss your dog goodbye and get yourself to Mangga Besar! A Jakarta neighbourhood, it's a fabulous base for discovering this amazing city's sights. The capital of Indonesia is home to some 8,500,000 people and the perfect place to really sink your teeth into the nation's culture and history. To get to Mangga Besar from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, catch a taxi, stash your suitcase in the boot and travel 18 kilometres to the east. If you're arriving via the city centre, you'll need to make your way 5 kilometres north.

Mangga Besar is a sightseer's paradise. A lot of the city's top attractions are strewn near this intriguing neighbourhood, including the National Monument and Jakarta Cathedral. After taking a look at those, you'll want to keep going to the Central Park and Pacific Place. While you're here, consider stopping by a few other neighbourhoods to taste more of what Jakarta has to offer. Chinatown and Old Town are great suggestions that are within close reach.

Keen to exercise your mind? The National Gallery of Indonesia and the Ismail Marzuki Park are a few recommended cultural places.

If you've got a taste for the arts, you can't miss the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics and the Balai Seni Rupa. Stroll around and if one of the works grabs your attention, ask the staff for information about its creator.

From interactive activities to curious objects and artefacts, there's something for everyone at museums. If you get stuck with a rainy day, why not make your way over to the Textile Museum, Adam Malik Museum, the Puppet Museum and the Sasmita Loka Museum?

Kids are often marvellous travel companions, especially if you take them to the right attractions! For an exciting family day out, head to the National Library of Indonesia, SeaWorld Indonesia and Seaworld.

If you're travelling with kids, they'll love a few hours at one of the area's action-packed attractions. Ancol Dreamland, Dunia Fantasi, Taman Impian Jaya Ancol and Ocean Ecopark Ancol are the ideal places for them to burn off a little steam.

A holiday is the perfect time to splash out a bit and grab a few souvenirs. Be sure to saunter through Plaza Indonesia, Mangga Dua, Mangga Dua Square and Pasar Baru!

You never know what truths will be revealed at Presidential Palace, the Bundaran Hi, the Welcome Statue and Merdeka Palace. These time-weathered places have plenty of tales to tell.

Local sacred places, such as the Istiqlal Mosque, Immanuel Church, the Jin de Yuan and Church of Christ, give you the opportunity to ponder in a serene setting.

Whether you follow a certain team or just want to feel the electric atmosphere, don't miss the opportunity to grab tickets to a game at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Remember to join in any chants, songs or Mexican waves that break out during the match, particularly if local heroes the Indonesia National Team or the Persija Jakarta are playing!
