Matre is a destination with plenty of cool stories to tell. If you reckon your life's been a bit humdrum lately, a trip here is the perfect answer!

It's located 300 kilometres to the west of Oslo, the capital of Norway.

The serene sounds of nature await you at Slettafjellet I. It sits just 50 kilometres away, so you don't have to be stuck on the road all day. The Heathland Centre, 30 kilometres away, is one more recommended choice.

The sprawling snowy landscapes of Sogndal Ski Centre and Stordalen Skisenter are a dream for powder fiends. Hire some skis and hone your technique on the slopes.

You might like to consider the Bjorn West Museet. It's an excellent place to wander around if you've got some time to spare.

We also recommend getting in the car and finding your way to Gulen. It's about 25 kilometres to the northwest and known for Church of Eivindvik and Tusenaarsstaden Gulatinget.

You may get the urge to set up base in Voss for a while. This place is 50 kilometres away and not too far from Vangskyrkja, the Hangursbanen Cable Car and Hangurstrekket. Other nearby attractions are Ekspressheisen and Alphaheisen.

Your eyes shouldn't have all the fun while you're in Hordaland. Give your taste buds a little attention as well by sampling the local food and drink. After all, you haven't truly experienced a place until you've tasted its flavours.

Do you enjoy moose? How about reindeer? Whether you're into them or not, they are two typical ingredients commonly used in the cuisine here.

When in Matre, dine like a local. That means ordering a plate of raspeballer (potato dumplings) with sausage or svinekoteletter (pork chops), two of the region's specialty dishes.
