You don't need to travel for hours to see some splendid natural sights. Hop in the car and follow the road to Mt. Shinobu-yama, 45 kilometres away from Minamisoma, for a relaxing day. Or perhaps Irimizu Limestone Cave is of more interest? It's located just 40 kilometres away.

For a bit of exercise and the chance to frame up some great holiday snaps, find some time to walk around Yonomori Park.

Go to the Minamisoma City Museum to reflect and indulge in the area's culture.

Whether you want to polish your turns or simply have fun and stay in one piece, Fukushima has the slopes you're after. You can head to either Zao Hot Springs Ski Resort or Alts Bandai Ski Resort.

How about visiting Nakamura Shrine and Fukushima Matsukawaura Nature Park? These brilliant attractions are near the centre of Soma, just 18 kilometres north. Use this as a base for a while and start doing some exploring!

Shiroishi, 50 kilometres to the northwest, is a great little excursion Use it as a base when visiting the Shiraishi Doll Warehouse, Sumaru House and Shiroishi Castle. If you'd like more persuading, other close by sights include the Yajiro Kokeshi Village and Obara Onsen.
