Ask one of the locals what dish best sums up the region and tempura (deep fried seafood or vegetables) will likely be among the first things they advise. Hako-zushi (square sushi) is another regional specialty you might like to tuck into.
If you're here for the dessert, you're not going to be disappointed. Try anpan (sweet roll), a scrumptious treat that's sure to hit your sweet spot.
Is there anything more pleasurable than tossing back an icy glass of beer topped off with a perfect foam head? Satiate your thirst and make friends with the locals over some Asahi Premium Beer Jukusen.
Junmaishu is what most locals have when the night calls for something with more bite. Ask the bar person for a taste and see if it wows your taste buds.
Your visit to the Hiroshima region is certain to be more fulfilling if you take the time to learn a couple of the local phrases and expressions. Try to articulate 'Ohayō gozaimasu'. It translates as 'good morning'. 'O-namae wa nan desu ka' ('what's your name?') is one more you might need.
Celebrated throughout the country, Birthday of Emperor Akihito happens each year on the 23rd of December. If you're lucky enough to be here at this time, it'll be difficult not to get swept up in the excitement!
