Holidays in Moji

Food is great, wine is better, but travel really hits the spot! So isn’t it about time you sunk your teeth into the Kitakyushu neighbourhood of Moji? This cool city has a population of around 1,000,000 people — don't be afraid to mingle with a few of them while you're in town. Arriving by plane? After you've claimed your suitcase and strolled out of arrivals at Fukuoka Airport, head 60 kilometres northeast to reach Moji. You'll find this neighbourhood 13 kilometres east of the centre of Kitakyushu.

With a good number of the city's attractions nearby, Moji is a sightseer's paradise. From Kokura Castle to the Kozanji Temple, you aren't going to run out of things to keep you on the move. You should also be sure to stop by the Zenrin Map Museum and Sea Mall Shimonoseki. For a better perspective of this amazing city as a whole, visit the close-by neighbourhoods of Shishakuda and Komorie.

Sometimes it's the most talked about exhibits that stand out. Other times it's an under-valued object that's been stored away in a dusty corner. Keep an eye out for both at the Fujiwara Yoshie Memorial Museum, the Kyushu Railway Memorial, the Kinuyo Tanaka Museum and the Moji Telecommunication Museum.

Kids can often have the best time in the most unlikely locations. Head off on an adventure with them to Shimonoseki Marine Science Museum and the Kokusaiyukokinen Library.

Nothing calms a busy mind quite like the sights, sounds and smells of nature. Experience it firsthand at Mojiko Retro Observatory and Ganryujima.

Something special about this place is its nearby green spaces. In the midst of all the activity, there are plenty of spots to relax and recharge. Mekari Park and Mimosusogawa Park are some good options.

Make your way over for an educational history lesson at the Kaikyo Dramaship, the Mojiko Retro, Water Place for War Horse Monument and Shimonoseki Former British Consulate. Looking at pictures in a book just doesn't compare!

Whether you want to learn more about the region's customs and traditions or simply take in the serene surroundings, get going to Akama Shrine, Mekari Shrine and Kameyama Hachiman-gu Shrine.
