I enjoyed this lovely hotel more than anywhere I've been in a long time. It's in the typical Hacienda style, on the rustic side, just what I personally love to find in a rustic town like Patzcuaro. My husband and friends and I rented a car and took drives around the lake to some of the smaller town, and I highly recommend doing that. We went to a mescal distillery,Mezcal Palomas Mensajeros, found the best mask maker in Tocuaro,Felipe Horta, son of Juan Horta. and found a really great restaurant in Quiroga, El Rey de Carnitas. I'd say the only downside to Patzcuaro is that in the years that have passed since we visited there, there are far too many small buses( and cars, in general) in town. However, when we drove around the lake, we did not find this to be so on the roads. Still, Patzcuaro is a wonderful place and we plan to return. Literally everyone we spoke to on the street and in shops and restaurants were so helpful and friendly. ( I'm sure, speaking some Spanish is helpful, but more important, being polite in return is more important.) If you like typical charm, rustic but clean and well appointed digs, you too will like this charming Meson.
