Holidays in Morgedal

Yep. We hear ya. Wanderlust — it gets right into your bones. So, isn't it time you planned your next adventure? Morgedal awaits!

It's situated 140 kilometres to the west of Oslo, the capital city of Norway.

You won't need to be stuck inside a car all day to see some nature around these parts. Just 25 kilometres out of Morgedal, Dalen Tourist Office is a wonderful place to get out into the fresh air. More idyllic surrounds await at Gygrestolen, 35 kilometres away.

Learn about the culture of this region at the Norwegian Ski Museum

Skiing enthusiasts adore Morgedal, as it gives access to Gautefall Ski Centre and Hovden Alpinsenter. Just remember to pile on the layers! These winter playgrounds can get seriously frosty.

If you're looking to head further afield, add a day trip to Trisett to your plan. This locality is 15 kilometres to the west and is the home of the Vest-Telemark Museum and Eidsborg Stave Church. Need more ideas? Bandaksli is 16 kilometres to the southwest of Morgedal and is known for Skredvatn Lake and the Grimdalstunet.

Sitting 60 kilometres to the west, Hovden is a destination with lots to offer. Hovden Town Hall, Fjellgardane Church and the Museum of Iron Production are all quite close. Keep in mind, Breive-expressen and Vestheisen are also worthwhile.

There is no better way to experience a place than to literally take a bite out of it! You're invited to explore Telemark by indulging in some of its most tantalizing food and drink.

Curious about some of the typical ingredients used in the local kitchens? Get ready to taste moose and reindeer in a few of your meals.

During your time in Morgedal, why not eat like a local? That means sampling a plate of svinekoteletter (pork chops) or lapskaus (stew with minced meat), some of the area's specialties.

Do you still have a little room in your waistband after your main meal? Then put in an order for krumkake (thin rolled cake filled with cream), an indulgent sweet treat.

Straight or mixed — the barkeeper will know the best way to drink karsk (coffee and vodka). When your evening begs for something a little stronger, this is the drink to order!

Dedicated travellers usually put in the effort to learn a few expressions in the local tongue. They've come to realise that being able to exchange some words with the local people isn't just convenient, it's a lot of fun! Try to get your mouth around 'Kva heiter du?'. It translates to 'what's your name?'. Maybe you'll find 'God morgen' a little bit easier to say? It means 'good morning'.

Held every year on the 17th of May, Constitution Day holds an important place in the locals' hearts. It offers a great chance to discover the nation's past and let your hair down while you're at it!

It's always a pity to say "Se deg senere" to Morgedal, but don't worry, it will still be there next time!

Getting to your plane on time can be a bit of a trial. That said, you'll be fine if you're prepared. The nearest terminal, Gardermoen Airport (OSL), is 170 kilometres to the northeast.
