Sometimes it's the star exhibits that impress us the most. Other times it's an under-appreciated artefact that's been stored away in a darkly lit corner. Keep a lookout for both at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, the Mawson's Huts Replica Museum and the Australian Army Museum Tasmania.

What better way to finish a day's activities than with a few drinks and a good performance? Check the programme at the Playhouse Theatre and Louisa's Walk.

Head outside and savour the scenery at the Subantarctic Plant House and the Rosedown Gardens.

Whether you're looking to sit under a tree with a book or throw a ball around with some friends, the nearby urban parks are delightful places to be. Your options include Caldew Park, Queens Domain and Train Park.

Wander through the mists of time at Franklin Square, the University of Tasmania, Government House and the Maritime Museum of Tasmania. These historic places have a collection of illuminating stories to tell.
