This cottage was originally built in 1910. It was a single room incorporating the kitchen and bedroom with the "Outback" toilet. Renovations and additions were added in 2019 to make this into a little treat of a retreat.
The previous owner Harry Hempel worked on the railways as a stoker on steam engines, and is who the cottage is named after.
Cottage includes full size fridge, electric oven, microwave, coffee pod machine, kettle, toaster, slow cooker, waffle press, air-con and heating in all rooms, TVs in all rooms, iron with ironing board, all linen and towels provided, heated towel rack, crockery/cutlery/utensils to the max, full size bath, queen sized bed, bunk bed and cot in main bedroom, with sofa bed in lounge. Murtoa offers a recreational lake and reserve, incorporating great fishing. The famous heritage listed stick shed. The Murtoa Water Tower Museum and Precinct. Plus silo art on a former flour mill silo.
Half way between Melbourne and Adelaide, it's a perfect spot to have a travel break.
