"Harry's Place" Cottage

53 Cromie St, Murtoa, VIC, 3390, Australia

This cottage was originally built in 1910. It was a single room incorporating the kitchen and bedroom with the "Outback" toilet. Renovations and additions were added in 2019 to make this into a little treat of a retreat.

The previous owner Harry Hempel worked on the railways as a stoker on steam engines, and is who the cottage is named after.

Cottage includes full size fridge, electric oven, microwave, coffee pod machine, kettle, toaster, slow cooker, waffle press, air-con and heating in all rooms, TVs in all rooms, iron with ironing board, all linen and towels provided, heated towel rack, crockery/cutlery/utensils to the max, full size bath, queen sized bed, bunk bed and cot in main bedroom, with sofa bed in lounge. Fully self contained. Plus an outback loo. (Plenty of of off street parking too).

25km from Horsham and 45mins to Halls Gaps and the Grampians.

Murtoa offers a recreational lake and reserve, incorporating great fishing. The famous heritage listed stick shed. The Murtoa Water Tower Museum and Precinct. Plus silo art on a former flour mill silo.

Half way between Melbourne and Adelaide, it's a perfect spot to have a travel break.
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned cottage, featuring a kitchen with a refrigerator and an oven. Conveniences include a microwave and an iron/ironing board.
This smoke-free cottage features hiking/biking trails nearby.

Our second stay at Harry's Place
We booked in to stay at Harry's Place to break up the drive back to Adelaide, and just like our first stay, it was just as delightful the second time! It was so nice to go back to a place that we were already familiar with and knew it was nice and comfortable. Veronica is an amazing host and had restocked the fridge with yoghurt, juice and water, and we love the homemade biscuits! Thank you again, Veronica!

Stopover on our way to Inverloch
We stayed at Harry's Place to break up the drive between Adelaide and Inverloch, and we couldn't be happier that we did! Veronica is a very generous host and has thought of everything that a person might need on a holiday away. The cottage is beautifully charming and clean, and the town of Murtoa itself is just enchanting. I wish I could give it 50 stars! We've booked it for the drive home as well, and we're so happy that we did!

Harry’s place was a lovely surprise - with nothing not thought of by the hosts. Everything you could possibly need - including books for all ages. I’m looking forward to going back and spending more time in the area, will definitely stay again.

Welcoming House
Surprisingly spacious cottage, very cosy and comfortable with many generous provisions - chocolates, a little carrot cake, breakfast items etc, made our stay very enjoyable. Veronica was also great to communicate with- thanks Veronica!

One of the very best!
This quirky little property is in immaculate condition and fully and generously equipped. The owner has thought of everything, even going over before we arrived to put the heating on. The beds and equipment were all of a very high standard and we were extremely comfortable. We'll certainly be recommending Harry's Place to all our friends.

A clever adaptation of a quaint and historic old cottage.
After Easter, we had the pleasure of staying at this fully equipped accommodation for 5 nights whilst we explored the small township, its large lake and other surroundings, including some beautiful walks near Mount Zero. The cottage was well appointed, with all necessities that help to make a holiday complete. We were made to feel very welcome as there was a basket with fruit, water and a variety of yoghurts in the fridge, and many other essential items for cooking and breakfasts. My partner and I can highly recommend this quiet little cottage to other travellers, as we ourselves contemplate another holiday there in the future. Irmie and John

Cannot wait to stay again!
Such a gorgeous little place with character and history. INCREDIBLY generous hosts, in fact the most generous I have experienced. Perfect end to a day at winery in Great Western and a perfect pit stop on route to Sth Australia. Can't wait to stay again!

Quiet little gem.
Hostess was so easy to communicate with - the extra touches in the cottage were an unexpected delight (yoghurt, cereal, milk, fresh fruit, bread for toast!). Very quiet street - enjoyed our stay very much so thank you.

Very Quaint
We broke up our drive back to Melbourne from Adelaide with a night here and it was the perfect pitstop. Be sure to check out the silo art at night!
