Holidays in Muzuki

Muzuki is a place that has plenty of cool stories to tell. If you think your life's been a bit boring lately, a trip here is the perfect answer!

From Muzuki, venture approximately 140 kilometres northeast to get to the renowned city of Okayama.

Sitting 100 kilometres to the southeast, Katsurahama Beach is a great place to while away an hour or two relaxing by the water. Zenigata Sunae also offers visitors some pleasant scenery. You'll find this popular shoreline 90 kilometres to the southeast.

In the mood for a natural escape? Grab your car keys and hightail it to Mount Noro, 35 kilometres away from Muzuki. Alternatively, get some fresh air at Hyoutan Pond, 40 kilometres away.

Once you've collected your ski pass at Mizuho Highland Ski Area, you won't want to waste a minute making your way to the top of the slope! You may also like to take the chairlift and experience the runs at Ishizuchi Ski Area.

How do you like the sound of Matsuyama Central Park and the Matsuyama Tourist Port? These awesome attractions are in Gogo Island, just 6 kilometres south of Muzuki. Or maybe Matsuyama Castle and Across Shigenobu are more up your alley? To visit them, go to Matsuyama, 15 kilometres southeast.

Want to check out the Nankobo, Itoyama Park and the Kurushima Strait Outlook Museum? Head to Imabari, 35 kilometres to the northeast, and set up camp. These sights, as well as the Enmeiji Temple and the Imabari Kono Museum, are all close at hand.

Whether you enjoy the thrill of Michelin stars or devouring a snack from a street cart, tasting the local food and drink is one of the greatest things about travel. So why not give your taste buds a treat by digging into some of the area's decadent offerings?

A typical meal here tends to include beef and noodles, two essential elements for which the area is known for dishing up.

Are you looking for a traditional Muzuki dining experience? There are some specialties to watch out for, such as tempura (deep fried seafood or vegetables) and sawachi ryori (sushi and raw fish).

You're not supposed to count calories on holiday, right? So it's a terrific excuse to treat your sweet tooth to some anpan (sweet roll), a beloved dessert.

To beer or not to beer? Of course, the answer should always be beer. When you're in this corner of the world, Asahi Premium Beer Jukusen is the name to say.

When the evening calls for something with a bigger kick, ask for junmaishu. On ice or neat — your bartender will know the nicest way to have it.

Make an effort to knock down that old language barrier by learning to say a couple of words and phrases in the local tongue. You'll gain a more authentic experience and a few new friends while you're at it! Try to get your lips around 'Ikura desu ka?'. It translates to 'how much is this?'. One more to remember is 'Yoi ichinichi o', which means 'have a nice day'.

What better way to learn about the culture of a place than by witnessing a day of national celebration? There'll be many festivities occurring for Birthday of Emperor Akihito on the 23rd of December.

It's always difficult to say "後でお会いしましょう (Atode o ai shimashou)" to Muzuki, but don't worry, it's not going anywhere!

Fukuoka Airport (FUK) is the closest terminal, 210 kilometres to the west. Ensure you give yourself plenty of time to get there.

Hotels in Muzuki

Accommodation definitely isn't bountiful in Muzuki. In fact, lastminute.com.au doesn't feature a single hotel! Thankfully though, you will find a couple of options 6 kilometres away, in Gogo Island. For excellent service and some decent shut-eye, book a room at one of the popular options, such as the Hotel Fine Garden Matsuyama - Adults Only and Hotel MyStays Matsuyama.
