Eel River house

This is NOT the Hilton, it’s a country home in the forest by the river, on a dirt road, miles from town, but only 15 minutes from the highway. It’s quirky but very comfortable and priced accordingly. If you don’t like a quiet rural relaxed setting in an interesting and different yet affordable house, please don’t book this property. 90% of our guests love the remote feel of the property and can’t wait to come back, the other 10% are very uncomfortable in such a rural setting and dont enjoy it. If you are a person who is comfortable on a couple miles of gravel road to get to a private park like River side getaway in the redwoods, this place is for you. The top floor has three separate bedrooms with double beds and a huge couch that could sleep two more, two bathrooms, a laundry room, wrap around redwood deck, grill, 70 inch TV, and great sound system. There is a separate downstairs apartment that is also available and may be occupied during your stay. Individual spaces are private, with private entrances, outdoor spaces are shared. The property is available for larger gatherings upon request with a total sleeping capacity of 18+,including four total bathrooms, two kitchens, six private bedrooms, and camping platforms for three large private sleeping spaces in tents. Canoes and kayaks are available to enjoy the river in the summer months
Make yourself comfortable in this vacation home, featuring a kitchen with a refrigerator and an oven. There's a private balcony. A kitchenette is outfitted with a stovetop and a dishwasher. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a Smart television is provided for your entertainment.
Take in the views from a garden and make use of amenities such as barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Beautiful
Property is beautiful. Waterfront is so nice. Definitely not super fancy but does the job. French press coffee only. Did not like that. One had a crack in it. Our only real complaint was the number of flies we had to kill every afternoon in the kitchen. If the owner fixed the kitchen door this won’t be a problem. Beautiful place. Would stay again. Would have liked a microwave and kcup coffee pot.

Shady Listing
I definitely do not recommend staying here especially not for a family. 20 minute drive in down a dirt road with no service made me question how often this place actually gets cleaned which was made clear once we entered the building. Almost didn’t make it up the stairs that I thought would cave in at any moment. The first bedroom on the first floor is completely unfinished and filthy and had no drywall. The rest of the place including the bedding was covered in dust so I’m not sure how the reviews, directly the day before, were real reviews because it was clear no one had been in this place for a while. The place is covered in poison oak. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough. There was zero service at the house or back in town so we were left searching for a place to stay last minute with no service driving from town to town with two young kids. Reading one of the other reviews and how both parents stayed up taking night shifts because they were so creeped out reads like the only real review for this house which is followed up with fake reviews to flush it out. Definitely will be reporting this house to Vrbo in hopes no one else will have their vacation ruined like ours was. The owner would give us no money back not even a cleaning deposit after not using the house which definitely seems like a scam to even collect having never been cleaned.

Nice spacious, quiet place
We really enjoyed our stay here. It's very spacious and has plenty of space. Would be great for a large family retreat. We canoed on the river - beautiful. The full kitchen was exactly what we needed and the beds were very comfy. Really nice view of the river through the trees across a large grassy area. The last five miles or so is on a well maintained dirt road, so be ready for that. Really a very nice place.

Beautiful view. House manager super friendly and helpful. Only complaint is a broken window in one of the bedrooms covered with a piece of paper. Beautiful spot!

Humboldt Paradise
We loved this place. Be prepard to go a little off the beaten path to get there, but it's worth it. The house is perfect for a family, and there's lots on the property to keep kids entertained, especially the little beach with river access. We're used to poison oak, but if you're unfamiliar, learn to recognize it. My advice, wear pants and boots down to the river and bring your sandals. A beautiful paradise on the Eel River!

Definately a 10 star rating. This is a great place. It's off the beaten path for those who enjoy the road less traveled.

Secluded house close to River
My family enjoyed being out in the woods. 3 mile drive uphill and 3 mile drive downhill! Definitely a secluded spot. There are 2 units at the property and a couple of tents on platforms. The bedroom in the basement is very separate from the rest of the home and is roughly finished. We loved the deck and being close to the river. Also very close to the Avenue of Giants. Worked out well for my not fussy family.

Beautiful setting in the Redwoods
We stayed for three nights with family and friends. Initially we were supposed to be just a party of six but we had an additional person come along as well. When I contacted, Dehran, the owner, he was fine with it. When we first got there the place was a bit warm and the kitchen faucet was not working. But Dehran promptly had someone there the same day and the issue was temporarily resolved. The next day a new faucet was put in and everything worked well. Also, once we had the windows open and fans going the upstairs cooled down. The main unit comes with three bedrooms - 2 upstairs and one downstairs. The bedroom downstairs was nice and cool throughout the day. Overall, we had a wonderful time. As others have mentioned, getting to the place may be tricky in the dark because it is a dirt road and you may not have cellphone reception. We got there when it was light - so it was not an issue. The place is very spacious with a wraparound deck and surrounded by redwoods. And it is right by the Eel River. You have access to kayaks and canoes. It’s refreshing to relax by the river and take a dip on a warm summer day. A few hundred yards down the river we found a nice spot that was deep enough to swim. Overall, it was peaceful and lovel, we will definitely go back there again. Oh, I should also say Dehran was kind enough to let us stay for one of our three days for free because of the kitchen faucet issue. He offered this on his own without us asking for it. Thanks, Dehran!

Quiet, relaxing rural property
We were looking for a quiet rural property to get some quality relaxation, and this house was perfect. It's a fantastic location right on the river without any noisy neighbors or street lights. Be aware, the property is located miles down a dirt road, so your car will get dusty in the summer or muddy in the winter. It's not a quick drive into town, so bring all the supplies you think you'll need. The walk down to the river is steep and sandy, so carrying river toys can be a challenge. The river trail is lined with poison oak which is also found all throughout the area, so care must be taken to keep people and pets out of the bushes. There is another rental unit downstairs, so if it is occupied with guests you'll want to mindful of creating excessive noise. There are tents on the adjacent property too, so there may be other people at the river. The host was a great communicator by VRBO messager. We will definitely consider staying at this property again in the future.

Not a bad stay
I know how important review ratings are, so I don’t want to leave something negative, however I know how important reviews are and I don’t want anyone else to show up with their family and be scared either. The most important thing I want to note is that i feel like you need to make sure you arrive during the day time hours because we arrived at 11 pm and our kids were truly scared since you have to walk in thru a kind of creepy basement area (where bedroom #1 is). Then there was no WiFi info (or any info indicating it was an VRBO so I think maybe it’s their personal house) anywhere so we had no phones, which kind of creeped everyone out further. None of us would sleep in the downstairs room so we had to share beds upstairs and my husband and I took shifts staying up to make sure we were safe. I do think some of that creepy feeling could have been avoided by showing up earlier in the day. All of that said, the water area and the views are beautiful! I wish we could have kayaked or fished! I do think they accurately describe it as a primitive house in the woods, so that’s why I’m still giving it a good rating. If you’re looking for a place to go chill in the woods alone, I think it’s absolutely great, but I don’t think it’s the best place for a family with kids on a vacation. :)
