About this property

Relax, Rejuvenate & Renew in Lower Long Lake Area

Located across the road from Lower Long Lake, our private guesthouse is a complete one- bedroom carriage home nestled in the woods on the north side of crystal-clear Lower Long Lake. Built in 2005 there is over 750 square feet of elbow room for you to enjoy. Newly redecorated and new creature comforts added! Sleep in or enjoy some solitude for writing, retreating, etc., or enjoy all the recreational area has to offer, including fishing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, biking, snowmobiling, area fish fries, live music and so much more. No loud motors, boats or fish houses being backed into the lake just outside your door or party goers outside your windows since we're set back off the lake and in the woods on almost 10 acres. Close enough however to carry a canoe or kayak to the landing and start your day on the lake in just minutes!

One of the most notable features of this guesthouse is a fully furnished eat-in kitchen with full-size appliances to prepare your meals (stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, Keurig Duo, French Press and tea kettle). Dishes, glassware, pots and pans are all included. Not interested in making your own meals? No worries! There are several local establishments happy to feed you that also have live music, incredible desserts and local flavor.

Afterward, relax in your own living room, enjoying the glow and warmth from the electric fireplace on cooler Fall or Winter evenings, your feet also kept toasty from the in-floor heat. High speed internet connection means you can bring your passwords for Roku, Netflix, etc., and watch your favorite TV shows and movies or grab one of the books available and nestle in on rainy days. Charging stations exist in the living room as well as the bedroom for your convenience. A writer's desk beckons you to start that book you've been meaning to write or check your laptop for incoming messages. The sleeper sofa is available for additional guests along with a foam topper provided to assure comfort. A roll-away twin bed is also available.

The bedroom's foam-topped queen-sized bed and lots of pillows welcomes you after a long day on the lake, snowmobiling, hiking or biking. Unpack your suitcase, hanging your clothes in the spacious closets or tucking them in the bedroom dresser. A wall-mounted, remote controlled fireplace offers ambience, along with a faux fur throw blanket. Turn off your alarms, open the window and let Mother Nature tell you what time it is. Listen for the doves and loons in the morning and the owls and peepers at night.

Your private bathroom includes a shower, medicine cabinet, pedestal sink, toilet, linen closet and all bath, kitchen and bedroom linens are furnished, as are soaps, conditioner, shower gel, toilet paper and facial tissues.

Enjoy sipping something on your private deck among the trees, keeping an eye out for deer, rabbits, turkeys and other woodland residents. Wildlife and nature truly does surround you out here, and you can look up and see stars for miles in the beautiful night skies. No light pollution from street lights or city sirens here!

Sit around the large fire pit in the courtyard, roasting marshmallows and telling tall fish stories in the evening. Bring your guitar! During the day the courtyard can be a great place to watch the charm of hummingbirds whiz by as they sip from the feeders on the front of the chalet.

Go for a walk on the long windy roads, the miles of hiking trails nearby, and take the picnic blanket and basket you'll find in the guesthouse closet with you.

Lower Long Lake is across the street, and is well-known for its crystal-clear water (101 feet deep and almost 1,000 acres around!), home to walleyes, muskies, bass and lots of pan fish. There's room for you to bring your boat and park it on our property while you're here. A lesser known boat landing is literally across the road, so put your boat in, drive your trailer back to the guesthouse and don't worry about navigating a parking lot full of boats & trailers when you return!

Upgrade to our special occasion package and enjoy a decorated environment upon your arrival, plush bathrobes and a welcome basket of goodies for an additional fee. Continental Breakfast baskets are also available when requested at time of booking, also for an additional fee. If you have any food allergies, please let us know at the time of requesting either of these upgrades. Upon receiving your reservation we will contact you and offer these options. You can choose to accept or decline them at that time. We are also happy to connect you with an ice fishing guide, masseuse or personal chef if you'd like.

Our guesthouse is perfect for couples and individuals wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; for writers, honeymooners (ask about our wedding, honeymoon and anniversary packages or elopements), those seeking personal retreat space, or those looking for a jumping-off place to enjoy all that the Blue Diamond resort area has to offer with festivals, music, outdoor recreation and so much more. There is free high speed internet connection to the Guesthouse, and a fiber connection in the chalet for those wishing to host small meetings in a more cozy environment, such as executive board meetings and small catered dinners. The kitchen and formal dining area is available for licensed caterers to assemble and serve meals in the chalet.

Sorry, no smoking and no guest pets. If you're missing the lovin's of a dog (or two), our three residents, Tucker (a Brittany spaniel), Tucson (Tucker's son) and Priya (a miniature schnauzer) are always willing to fill in.

High quality, battery-operated candles are provided for your use in the guesthouse during your stay as well as a gas grill - please leave regular candles, as well as tabletop and other grills at home.

Across the courtyard from the guesthouse is Basswood Chalet. Basswood Chalet is an Old World European style chalet with a 25 foot river rock fireplace in the main room of the house. Basswood Chalet is available for smaller, more intimate weddings, elopements and ceremonies, small meetings and photo shoots. It does not accept overnight guests at this time.

The onsite services of a seminary-trained, fully ordained interfaith minister, mediator/arbitrator, photographer, videographer and keyboardist are available. Ceremonies can be held in front of the 25 foot river rock fireplace, on the chalet's wraparound deck, in the courtyard, in the forest or at the boat landing across the road. Guest list size is limited to preserve the natural woods, marshland and wildlife of Basswood Chalet & Guesthouse.

Sorry, we are not handicap accessible at this time.

Perfect fall retreat
We had a wonderful stay while the autumn colors were ablaze all around us. The roads winding through the hills and around all the lakes were just beautiful. The guesthouse had everything we needed for a cozy, peaceful, restful retreat. Check out the Interpretive Center at the Chippewa Morraine Ice Age Unit and do some hiking along the Ice Age Trail. Great hosts & a lovely location.

Nice Anniversary Getaway
We enjoyed our stay! We were looking for a quiet place to celebrate our anniversary. It was near the Ice Age Trail for hiking, and we enjoyed exploring the area. The fall colors were in peak season, and we enjoyed being able to see them right outside the window! We will be back! This was such a nice area to visit, and Dave and Ronnie were excellent hosts!

Nice stay
This guesthouse was just as advertised, and was the perfect fit for our weekend ice fishing. Top notch hospitality preceded by quick, complete communication by the owners. Tap water was very "strong" tasting, but our hosts had some bottled water ready for us just in case it wasn't to our liking. Then we bought our own. Would stay again if head in that direction again.

Meditation retreat and outdoor adventuring
Absolutely a perfect place to do an online meditation retreat. Peaceful, serene with nature surrounding such a beautiful, comfortable place. It has everything one would need, the most comfortable bed, super clean, hot shower, full kitchen, really everything. Then after a weeklong retreat, my partner joined up with me and we did hiking and bicycling. Fantastic hiking in Chippewa Moraine and biking on the Old Abe Trail, both very close. A big plus are Ronnie and Dave, super hosts, very kind, attentive.

Respite in the Woods
I was looking for a clean and comfortable place to stay while visiting family in New Auburn. This was close and perfect for my needs. Ronnie was very quick to respond to all my questions and concerns as this is a second floor apartment and I have mobility issues. She sent me a list of items available in the apartment as well as pictures of the stairs and front entry so I knew exactly what I would be dealing with at arrival. Had one tiny issue with a breaker that went out and Dave had it corrected within minutes after I texted the issue. I am truly looking forward to my next visit.

Beautiful weekend getaway!
I had a great stay in New Auburn in Dave and Ronnie's Guesthouse. I stayed for one weekend with three friends, and we had a wonderful time! The house was incredibly clean and very nice. The location and surroundings are absolutely beautiful. Everything was exactly as I expected from the posting. Dave and Ronnie were excellent hosts. They were very professional throughout, and also very helpful with suggestions for things to do and see in the area. I would definitely recommend the apartment to anyone looking to stay in the area! Thanks again to Dave and Ronnie for the great weekend!

This was the perfect place for my boyfriend to stay while seeing family. We came to the area to ice fish with my boyfriends family but wanted our own place to be able to social distance a bit more and have our own place to relax to. The property is beautiful! The guest house is so cozy and was equipped with everything you need. It’s close to the Ice Age Trail which was a really nice trail!

Wooded Getaway
This coach house apartment was the perfect size for the two of us. We hiked local trails and enjoyed the firepit. We didn't sample any of the local restaurants, opting instead to cook our meals in the nice sized kitchen. The heated floors kept us toasty despite the early snow. Owners Dave and Ronnie were very friendly and accommodating, and the property is lovely and quiet.

Perfect Place!
I went on this trip with my boyfriend and our friend just to get away from the stress of the real world. We had a great time! The guesthouse was super cute and homey. The location is also super nice because you are surrounded by nature in every direction! We came to go fishing and do some sight seeing and this property offered us the perfect place to stay when we wernt out doing things. Not only that but Dave and Ronnie were very nice and super accommodating throughout our entire trip. Dave was always filling us in on the best fishing spots on the lake which helped us out! I know my favorite part was getting to give Tucker and Lilly goodmorning pets! We all agreed that we definitely want to go back and stay there again next year!

Perfect to get away from it all
My girlfriend and I, were looking for a place that allowed us to slow down and enjoy being surrounded by peaceful woods. We found just that here. Weather is was a breakfast on the back deck, listening to the morning birds, relaxing next to one of several nearby lakes, taking a hike along a large multi-path trail, or just staying in to prepare some food and have a drink. We had everything we wanted. If we didn't feel like making something ourselves, we were provided a wonderful list of nearby places where we could dine. Ronnie and Dave were very friendly, made themselves available to any of our needs, or questions. We plan to go back again after the pandemic and get to know them more. The place was clean, fully stocked with kitchen and bathroom needs. Large open living room that flows into the kitchen and a cute bedroom with a comfortable bed. Karen and I highly recommend this place, and as stated before. We will be coming back.
