THE SPACE
The Inn is a large camelback style home which has recently been expanded and renovated into a licensed bed & breakfast. During the renovation we took great care to keep the distinctively New Orleanian character of the home and prevent it from being another bland, forgettable rental space. The house features 12-foot ceilings, original hardwood floors, beautiful molding, and a jazzy blend of colors. Upstairs are six bedrooms and four full bathrooms, two of which are located in the master bedrooms and two off the halls, so there's plenty of room for your group of up to 12 guests. Downstairs is a spacious living room, dining room, and stocked kitchen, as well as another half bathroom. The rear of the building holds off-street parking for up to 3 vehicles, as well as a breezy back porch overlooking a huge back yard. In addition to central air, each bedroom in the home has a ceiling fan. Pretty much everyone who stays with us says they think the space is amazing; come see why!
KITCHEN AMENITIES
The kitchen has a full size refrigerator/freezer, gas range and oven, dishwasher, microwave and toaster. We keep it equipped with dishes, silverware, pots, pans, glassware and other kitchen and cooking basics, as well as salt/pepper, oil and spices. There is also a coffee bar with a drip coffee maker and coffee, sugar and creamer provided.
WIFI
A mesh wifi system allows for high speed internet throughout the home.
IMPORTANT NOTE
We do live in the house, within a separate unit that is separated by locked doors. All the interior spaces pictured or described in this listing are for the exclusive use of guests, and we would not enter the guest space without permission except in case of emergency. We will share the back yard and parking areas and will see your group coming and going, but we give our guests freedom within the rental space.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Mid City is the heart of the city! Hop on the streetcar and enjoy a short, quaint ride (for $1.25) to the French Quarter anytime, day or night. As well as the Quarter, Mid-City is a good spot to access the rest of New Orleans' memorable neighborhoods such as Uptown, Treme, and the Lakefront.
Or enjoy all that Mid City has to offer. We are within ONE AND A HALF MILES of:
More than 50(!) locally owned restaurants, including Parkway Bakery and Tavern (probably the world's best po'boy shop)
More than 15 bars (including three music venues)
Five coffee shops
Three grocery stores and two specialty markets
One very large beautiful park (City Park, which is larger than New York's Central Park!)
One art museum (The New Orleans Museum of Art)
One sculpture garden (Sydney and Walda Besthoff Garden at New Orleans Museum of Art)
One bayou (Bayou St John, the only one in town)
One famous beignet stands (Cafe du Monde in City Park, open 6 AM-midnight)
One famous Italian bakery and gelato shop (Angelo Brocato's)
One accessible swimming pool (The Drifter Hotel)
One Hurricane Katrina Memorial
Kayak and paddle boat rentals (On the Bayou and in City Park)
Great examples of New Orleans' famous above-ground cemeteries
Y'all are going to love it!
GETTING AROUND
Off street parking is available. We are located four blocks from a major streetcar stop, which is then a 15 minute ride to The French Quarter and Central Business District. We are a 5 minute ride to City Park (or 20 minute walk), and a 5 minute ride to New Orleans' famous above ground cemeteries. Blue Bikes offers bicycle-sharing that allows for pickup and drop-off throughout the city, and has a kiosk four blocks from the Inn (at the streetcar stop). Uber and Lyft operate in New Orleans as well as traditional taxis. And if you really want the fun way to get around, you can always hire a party bus...
HOUSE RULES
Firearms are strictly prohibited. Active duty military and law enforcement officers may contact us at the time of booking regarding possible exceptions to this policy. Any exceptions will be granted at our sole discretion.
Smoking is not allowed in the house but is allowed on front and back porches.
We do feel strongly about being respectful of neighbors. We ask that guests watch noise levels after 10pm on weeknights and after 11pm on weekends, especially outside. We do not allow any outside guests to stay past these hours. In general, please ask before your stay if you are planning on hosting any sort of gathering.
Please inquire before booking if your group is a bachelor(ette) party. While we are happy to host these groups, we ask that they do not have any party events in the house, and that decoration is kept to a minimum.
We ask guests to treat the front porch as closed after 8pm since it is very close to where our baby sleeps.
ABOUT US
Lindsay started The Okra Inn in 2013, and today it's a family owned and run business with her husband Adam, four year old Penny, one year old David, and the ageless dog Ringo. They now have two locations, both in the vibrant Mid City neighborhood.
