Welcome to your architectural Midcentury Modern oasis in the woods. This unique home with cathedral ceilings was built by an architect in 1960 for his personal use and makes for the ideal mountain getaway. A dramatic wall of windows overlooks the woods of the Shawangunk Mountains with striking ice-age sandstone and shale boulders throughout the property. Enjoy your coffee, scenery, and tranquility in the vaulted living room or on the upper balcony off the bedroom, the architect’s own private retreat. Hidden from the road, the house is a cedar and teak construction both inside and out set among four private acres of woods and rock outcroppings. It features:
• Two spacious bedrooms with king size beds, one of which is a loft facing the front wall of windows.
• A third spacious sleeping/media room down on the lower level with pullout couch and futon, both for sleeping.
• Three full bathrooms.
• A modern, open plan kitchen with a dishwasher.
• A large dining alcove surrounded by ship-like windows with views to the surrounding forest.
• An immense stone fireplace perfect for a fire on cold and winter nights.
The crowning jewel is the vaulted living room which is centered around the elongated fireplace and soaring rows of windows which allow light in from the south and west. For younger guests (or the young at heart!), the property features two tree houses built by the architect in the backyard, as well as a swing set for children. Additional amenities include: Nest controlled AC/heating system, Wi-Fi, fire logs (provided in fall/winter), plush cotton towels, custom Kiehl’s toiletries, outdoor grill with seating (for 6), washer/dryer, Smart HD TV with Amazon Prime, HBO, Hulu and other streaming channels, and an entertainer’s kitchen. This Midcentury house is located two and a half miles (4km) from the center of New Paltz, with nearby attractions including:
• Numerous restaurants, bars, cafes, bookstores, a movie theater, and Water Street Market- a pedestrian shopping village with antique stores, eateries, and the local Denizen Theater.
• The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail: a 22-mile (35km) gravel pathway created from a former railroad, extending from Gardiner to Kingston and perfect for strolling, jogging, or biking (rentals nearby).
