We've previously stayed at this hotel with no problems, but we arrived yesterday and the room we were put in wasn't at all suitable. We entered room 302 which was up in the roof, which meant the layout of the room was really bad. My husband is 6ft 5, and he wasn't able to maneuver around the bed safely. We've stayed in one of the snug doubles before without any issues.
My husband spoke to reception and we ended up having to pay a further £30 to be moved to a different room. This was completely unfair, but we didn't have a choice due to the safety aspect of the previous room.
Our new room was 122. This room had stains on the door and carpet, had dirt around the window, bad rust on the bathroom mirror, and the shower was leaking. The leak from the shower had caused the wood to become damp and was rotten, so it must have been leaking for quite a while.
The room was also very hot, with no air conditioning. We had to turn on the fan which didn't really help. With the combination of the heat and sound of the fan, we both didn't sleep well.
The breakfast was okay, but we've had better.
My husband mentioned to the receptionist upon check out about how hot the room was and he was told only the front rooms had air conditioning. This doesn't feel right that only some guests get air conditioning, even when paying the same amount of money.
I'm afraid we won't be returning to this hotel and we feel it's no longer 4* quality.
Stayed for our 10yr anniversary, property situated in a perfect location and was very relaxing. Majority of staff were fantastic, only downside was a plumbing issue in our room and the staff member on shift was extremely rude expecting us to vacate room first thing in the morning without being able to use showers etc. Settled on the temporary use of a second room which was fine but having to explain why we needed to be able to have access to basic facilities at the front desk wasnt great. Would stay again on the basis that the rest of the stay was perfect.
Great 1960s style hotel and service always with a smile and very reasonably priced in context with the area. The rooms were clean and tidy also had a lift which was good for my wife and the food was superb many thanks to the staff.
An enjoyable night staying in Lyndhurst to see some of the New Forest. Spacious room was great value. Bed was comfortable. Excellent food for dinner in the restaurant and breakfast was delicious in the sunny room. Quaint old lift worked, making it easier with our bags.

Very Grand but looking dated especially the rooms
Hotel had lots of character and reception area was very grand but looking dated especially in the rooms with miss match furniture poor decorating but bed was very comfy and bathroom was clean breakfast wasn't the best but was okay. All in all very overpriced for what you get but think it's due to location rather than for the luxury
The hotel is tatty and needs some maintenance. Our room (Deluxe Double Room, with King Bed) lacked facilities I would expect at the price. No fridge, I tried to iron a shirt with the non-steam travel iron and table top ironing board provided, for our night out. No chance! I ended up wearing the tracksuit I wore on the day. Also a bottle water would have been nice.
