Holidays in Nuevitas

Been struck down with a nasty case of the travel bug? Don't worry — we've got the perfect cure. Book a ticket to Nuevitas and you'll be feeling a hundred percent in no time!

Travel 14 kilometres to the northeast and you'll reach Playa Pinos. It's known for some awesome attractions, such as Faro Colón and Fuerte San Hilario.

Tourists often make the journey to Camaguey. This place is 65 kilometres to the west and pretty close to San Cristo del Buen Viaje Church, Nicolas Guillen Birthplace and Carmen Plaza. If you're planning to stay a little while, remember to swing by the Union de Escritores y Artistas Cultural Center and Iglesia de San Lazaro.

When it comes time to release the adventurer within, sign up for some mountain biking. That said, there aren't many better ways to experience the local region than with a bit of mountain climbing.

If you're feeling a bit worn around the edges, take the chance to be at one with nature and go cycling. If it's not really to your liking, picnicking might be more to your taste.

Have you thought about heading off on some guided nature walks, cycling tours and city walking tours? Pick your tour guide's brain as you explore all that the region has to offer.

Sure, it's quite nice to be beside the water, but it's going to be way more fun to be on or in it! Make the most of the chance to try your hand at the region's fantastic watersports, such as swimming and snorkeling.

You'll find loads of interesting things squashed into the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries and theaters.

Put on some comfortable clothes and head on over to one of the surrounding area's popular outdoor attractions. Its open-air museums, street art and gardens are there to be explored.

Travel back in time by exploring some close-by castles, old towns, fortresses, historic mansions and historic palaces. When it comes to grasping the significance of these structures, a well-informed tour guide can offer some deeper insight.

Whether or not you believe in a higher power, exploring one or two of the surrounding churches, cathedrals and monasteries is a good opportunity to learn a bit about the local spiritual beliefs.

Make good use of your time in the air by memorising a couple of local expressions. 'Buenas tardes' may be very handy. It's how you say 'good afternoon'. Another one to remember is '¡Hola!', which means 'hello'.

Don't forget to mark the 1st of January in your calendar. To the locals, this means just one thing — Triumph of the Revolution. A prominent day of festivities, this is an excellent time of year to visit the country.

You may be poor in Cuban pesos when your trip comes to an end, but you'll be rich in extraordinary experiences. "Hasta la vista" Nuevitas!

If you'll be travelling by air, you'll most likely be using Nassau International Airport (NAS). It's 390 kilometres to the north. Pack up your bag, find the best route and set that alarm!
