Keep your eyes open for seashells to add to your collection back at home or try to spot creatures like seabirds and crabs at Mount Lavinia Beach and Kalatura Beach. You'll find these fabulous stretches of coastline 95 kilometres and 95 kilometres away, respectively.

Mother Nature's handiwork is yours to discover in numerous places around Nuwara Eliya District. Just 20 kilometres away, Horton Plains National Park is a wonderful place to start. Katugas Ella Falls sits 45 kilometres away and is another pleasing spot to find some peace and quiet.

Want to go and see Embekka Devale, the Lankatilake Temple and the Gadaladeniya Temple? They're all not far from Wattappola, 35 kilometres away. The Suriyakantha Centre d'Art et de Culture and the Embekke Temple are also conveniently close and should be on your travel plan.

From Nuwara Eliya District, it's roughly 90 kilometres to the southeast to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (HRI). This is the closest airport. Make sure you give yourself a bit of extra time to find your way there so you don't miss your flight back home.
