Decent place-certain amenities falsely advertized
In general the house was clean. Biggest disappointment was the existence of the advertised hot tub. The grill that was there(supposed to be usable) was buried and unaccessible. We booked the Francis house for 5 nights. The first two nights the upstairs bedrooms were extremely cold-we ended up buying a heater to warm the upstairs. There are no heat registers upstairs and the host asked if the cleaning crew had left the doors open. I believe if the heat had been turned on a couple days earlier the rooms would’ve been tolerable. Mouse droppings in the lower cabinet dishes. Poor water pressure for an on demand water heater. House smells of mildew due to standing water in the basement. I realize this is an old farm house and does have character, but certain things can be avoided. All this being said-when confronting the host about the misleading add about the hot tub-he and his partners claimed it was never on the Vrbo site and shouldn’t be. Thats fine, but i went back and then the host or partners removed the hot tub from the listing. Its one thing to make a mistake and own ip to it-another to lie about it because someone removed it. Problem is-i have a screenshot of the listing. Even after confronting the host with this-there was no offer of compensation-there was an apology, even $25 dollars a night would have been enough to satisfy us. We drove 8 hrs to snowmobile-we chose this house because of a hot tub. Deano communicates well and seems lije a nice guy…

Francis House
The property was as advertised and there were no surprises. Hoping to use the location again. Close enough to town yet still quiet so i could enjoy the evenings. If you’re looking for modern, you best keep looking but if ypu want a quiet, charming old house with a relaxed atmosphere, this is your place!

UP Experience
Our family really enjoyed our stay at the Francis House! The house housed 8 comfortably with plenty of interesting rooms for the kids (and adults) to explore, a great yard, and stocked firepit. The location couldn't have been better, minutes from downtown Ontonagon, right down the street from groceries/gas, and smack dab in the middle of all the hiking, beaches, and waterfalls you could ask for.

Color tour stay
The home was nice and location was great. We were a bit surprised that there was what we believe was a towel hanging behind the main bathroom door left by a previous guest. We live in a 120 yr old farm and understand the quirk’s that come with an old home. One thing that needs to be addressed is the mouse problem. Our wives were freaked out a bit, saw a few and heard them in the dresser drawer’s and in the walls. Over all its a beautiful old home and our stay was good.

Great Experience
My husband and I treated our kids and grandkids to a lovely 3-night vacation at this property. Dean, the host was excellent in communicating and very accommodating. The gift basket left for us was wonderful. It included many local treats including Michigan blueberry jam and Swedish pancake mix. The pancake mix was enough to feed out crew and topping with the jam was fantastic. The house was beautiful with a big farm-house kitchen. The house was well-stocked with everything possible. There are three bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs which worked well for us, as the family that has a 17-month old was able to use the downstairs bedroom so as not to disturb the rest of us with their early to bed/early to rise schedule. We truly enjoyed the big fire ring behind the house and had several fires with the wood that was provided by the host. The deck on the back of the house was also well-used and appreciated, including the charcoal grill. Use of the washer/dryer (including laundry soap) was great. Property is located within minutes of downtown Ontonagon where we visited a rock & gem store and an antique store, both were delightful. Also very close to the local grocery store which we took advantage of. Local access to the beaches was wonderful and we found many rocks to take home. Two of our kids were also able to Scuba free-dive and see a sunken boat at a location within 20 minutes of the house. Overall, we had a fantastic stay. Thanks Dean!

Rustic-Luxury
My husband and I love the Upper Peninsula, even had our honeymoon up north 35 years ago!! This 160+ year old farm house was perfect for a quick five night getaway. Dean is an excellent communicator and very accommodating. The beddings and textiles are luxurious, and the wood floors and quaint kitchen gave an air of cabin living But don't let the cabin reference fool you! Beautiful chandeliers light up the dining room where built in china cabinets held gorgeous time period dishes and serving pieces. The antique silver sets, including candle sticks adorn the sideboard. Heirlooms abound, but we were assured to make ourselves at home. We arrived later than expected and we're extremely pleased with the ease we were able to gain entrance. On the table was a lovely gift basket with local treats just for us. We were welcomed with sincerity!! Details like soaps, toilet paper, and other niceties put us at ease, since we came after the local grocery store closed!! Thank you Dean, we have stayed at several places that didn't provide garbage bags or TP. 😊 I would recommend this home to anyone! My husband has some residual deficits due to a stroke - there is a bathroom and master bedroom on the main floor that were accessible. We are hoping to return this summer with family and grandkids. It is so close to beaches, Calumet, Lake of the Clouds, Bond and Agate falls, as well as Green Park for rock hounding. I must mention the fields of lupine starting to bloom, forget-me-nots, and even trilliums on the public trails! Bless you for a one in a lifetime vacation!
