Folie Méricourt is a central neighbourhood with a good transport connection. On one side, there is Place de la République near the Grands Boulevards district with its many theatres and Canal St-Martin district with its bars and restaurants. On the other side, there is Le Marais, one of the oldest and most vibrant districts in the city, where restaurants and boutiques abound.
The apartment central location makes it easy to get around the city (five Metro lines at Place de la République giving you access to the Bastille, Madaleine, Opera).
In the past, a working-class district, with many courtyards and passages occupied by craft or industrial activities, as La Maison des Métallos, which nowadays has become a centre of art exhibition. Most of the old workshops have been converted into art galleries or offices for architects, artists and designers.
In recent years, the area has become a trendy and eclectic neighbourhood, that attracts young people to discover the new coffee bars and restaurants.
Between Rue Jean Pierre Timbaud and Boulevard Richard Lenoir, you will find a charming farmer’s market, called Popincourt market, taking place each Tuesday and Friday morning.
