Take it from us, Pelayo is the sort of place that's worth taking work off for. It's located in Andalucia, a charming region that's blessed with awesome beaches, coastal plains, rivers and mountains. Need we say more?

It lies 510 kilometres to the south of Madrid, the capital city of Spain.

Take some time out for a picnic among the coastal surrounds at Paradise Beach or Venus Beach.

Venture beyond the confines of Pelayo and get ready to experience some lovely natural sights. Just 16 kilometres away, Rock of Gibraltar is a nice place to recharge your batteries. You also can't go wrong with Cap Spartel, 50 kilometres away from Pelayo.

Get the blood flowing and enjoy a walk around Mirador del Estrecho or Maria Cristina Park. If your stomach is rumbling, they're perfect spots to spread out a blanket and spoil yourself with a picnic.

The Convent and Moorish Castle are quite close to the centre of Algeciras, 7 kilometres to the northeast. Eager for more? Palmones, 12 kilometres to the northeast of Pelayo, boasts Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and Casemates Square.

Tarifa, 12 kilometres to the southwest, may be worth a day trip. Use it as a base when visiting Playa de los Lances, Point Tarifa and Castle de Guzman El Bueno. If you need more convincing, other nearby sights include St. Matthew's Church and Castillo de Guzmán.
