The hotel was beautiful and the front staff was excellent but the wait staff in the dining room and bar area needs improvement.. for a 5 star resort I was disappointed . No consistency with our meals and the service was slow .
Me and my girlfriend stayed for two nights over our anniversary and i proposed to her at the villa. The hotel did an excellent job in helping me suprise and propose to her.
The villas are beautiful and the view is spectacular, an amazing stay we will always remember and we will come back.
The resort is extremely well-designed. The quality is overall good, marred perhaps by some small details such as the pull handle of the shower screen door which was grimy. Otherwise, everything else (service, food, setting) was excellent. Highly recommended.
Our stay with MAUA was a perfect start to our honeymoon. Upon check-in, they upgraded us for a very minimal cost to a sunset villa overlooking the ocean and had a sweet Congratulations cake waiting for us. The villa and the accompanying view were absolutely stunning. The staff was so accommodating and friendly, and the complimentary breakfast was amazing. Several reviews discuss the short portion of bumpy dirt road before the hotel, however, it was only a small portion and didn’t detract from our experience in the slightest. I wish we could have stayed longer! Such an amazing find.
It was magical! Staff was friendly, views were great

Liked: Property conditions & facilities
Disliked: Staff & service, amenities
Maua has the potential to be amazing and yet fails at every turn, especially the basics. The hotel is situated at the end of a very bumpy road which makes access to the rest of the island uncomfortable at best. Despite its isolated location, Maua is unwilling to offer shuttles or cars down to the main road for less than the price of a limousine in London. 763k for a 15 minute journey, versus 150k local cab, in exactly the same car. When asked for a local taxi company number, they informed us they did not have any, despite telling us the night before that they would be able to connect us. This miscommunication is at the heart of the problem with Maua. Over promising, under delivering.
The breakfast was good but service ranged from average to very slow. Turn down service was sporadic at best, in the sense it happened once and then no one was bothered to do it again.
On a hopeful note, the hotel has potential but needs to rethink each aspect
This resort is beautiful, in excellent condition and very tranquil. The staff was outstanding. It is in a remote area, perfect place to get away from it all and nurture your soul. Would return
The property is relatively new and it is in quite secluded area. View from the hotel is amazing, however the road to the hotel is quite challenging. If it’s past sunset not really safe to drive there. Nothing in the surrounding area (like restaurants or minimarts), so make sure you shop for snacks or drinks if you need them at night because their restaurant and room service is not 24 hours. Staffs are friendly, especially Dinda who helped us during check in and Kaka in the restaurant who assisted us throughout our stay.
Magnificent! Ultra friendly staff. Superbly clean and second to none private views of the bay. These villas have both privacy AND the views AND the infinity pool.
The staff organised everything for us; transfers to and from the ferry, private snorkelling tour, rental scooters/driver for the day (whichever you prefer, but we recommend the scooter. It's more convenient and adds to your authentic experience!),
We had two different rooms (different price) and enjoyed both.
Although the resort was newly opened and some of the facilities (e.g. gym) were still to be completed, we had an amazing time at Maua and will be sure to return. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite with our 2 children, and loved the resort. The food was great, the sunsets and views were amazing, but it was really the staff who helped take it to the next level with the friendliness and great advice, all of which helped to ensure our 5 days in Penida were the highlight of our 2 weeks in Bali.
Totally 5 star resort, staff amazing and the friendliest I have ever come across. Rooms are beautiful. Plenty of dining options, and wonderful meals. Just loved the peace and quiet, as well away from the main road.
Road in is a bit bumpy, but drivers take it very slow, so all good.
Would stay here again in a heart beat.
Pros : Rooms are nice. Views are really nice. It’s clean. The restaurant staff are amazing. It’s close to Amok Subset which is a nice spot to dine and hang out at.
Cons: Staff needs training if this is in fact a 5 star resort. We booked and paid extra for a King size bed. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, we had to debate what a king size bed is. First, “king size in Indonesia is Med”(this is not true. We have stayed in hotels with king size bed), then a calculator was brought out to measure the bed, then offered for us to pay more for a bigger room, then blamed Expedia and Agoda for wrong advertising and room description. Be ready to debate. Road to resort was treacherous.
Final: not too many options on the island (only 5 star resort) so as a traveler, you have to deal with the mishaps. Bali has been amazing
