Characterful Cottage in Penryn, Private Parking

Summary:
Tucked away on a quiet road in Penryn is this beautiful, characterful cottage with a story to tell. From the front, you’re met with a whitewashed double-fronted cottage with wooden sash windows and a Cornish slate roof, but step through the door into an abode that’s full of period charm. To the back is a spacious garden that’s exploding with greenery and wildlife. Sit back with your morning coffee and the Sunday papers, or tuck into locally sourced fish for alfresco suppers at sunset.

The Space:
Much care and consideration have been taken to ensure the cottage maintains many of its traditional features. In the sitting room, find rustic stone walls and exposed wooden beams, wooden sash windows and elegant Victorian fireplaces. Settle into the comfortable sofas after a busy day exploring Cornwall’s south coast, pick a book from many on the shelves and enjoy a quiet night of peace and relaxation. There’s a smart TV too if you’d prefer a film, as well as a piano next door to play a tune or two. The interiors are perfectly paired with unique antiques, creating a warm and homely feeling that embraces you from the moment you step through the door. Rustle up delicious holiday meals in the well-equipped kitchen; you’ll find everything you need and more!

Upstairs, all is light and bright with bedrooms that boast pretty views of the surrounding greenery. The property can sleep up to 7 in total with two double bedrooms, one of which also has a raised single bed, plus a bunk bed that is ideal for children. However, with it being a period property not designed for modern-day aesthetics, space may be tight for this number of guests so we recommend a maximum of 5. The bedrooms share two bathrooms, one with a bath, basin and WC and a second cosy shower room with a shower and wash basin.

Outside you will find a wonderful garden which is its own tranquil escape away from the hustle and bustle. At different times of year, it transforms into a flowery oasis, other times there are fruits which you are welcome to pick and enjoy. The garden is mostly fully fenced, though there is an area at the bottom where a determined dog could maybe escape. There's also a secure outdoor shelter for storing bikes and surfboards, which is accessible directly from the street.

With private parking for one vehicle (off-site), you’re in a prime spot to walk to all of Penryn’s best amenities: from independent cafés and fabulous farm shops to the river’s edge and quayside. The surrounding landscape is sublime for country walks and adventures too, so go discover Falmouth’s bustling town centre, the local historical sights and a plethora of wonderful beaches.

Guest Access:
Guests have full access to the house and garden. There's also a secure outdoor shelter for storing bikes and surfboards, which is accessible directly from the street.

The Neighborhood:
Steeped in history, the charming town of Penryn is quieter than its neighbour, Falmouth. You'll find mazes of quaint cobbled streets to explore, beautiful scenery to take in and a thriving artisan community. Enjoy a freshly ground coffee from the stylish Origin cafe, find local goodies at the fabulous Bailey's Country Store and pick up the day's catch from the counter at Seabourne Fish. You won't struggle to find great dinner options either, and our favourites include Seven Stars as well as Bango Kitchen.

You're in the perfect spot to explore all that South Cornwall has to offer. Just under three miles away are the sandy beaches of Falmouth, as well as a high-street full of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Make sure to try Mine, The Shack and the Star & Garter. All are easily accessible via the train which is only one stop to Falmouth Town and one more to the end of the line at Falmouth Docks. For a healthy dose of sea air, wander round to Pendennis Castle which sits hight up on the edge of the point and dates back to the 1500s!

The Helford River offers lots of opportunities for walking and cream tea eating. Whilst a little further afield is Porthleven, known for its fantastic pubs and the annual food festival, as well as Praa Sands for coastal paths and swimming or surfing opportunities. Enys Gardens and Tea Rooms is a firm favourite of locals and is said to be the oldest gardens in Cornwall. Within the secret 30-acre gardens you’ll find an open meadow known as Parc Lye where the bluebells are breath-taking. From Penryn, you can catch the Falmouth Water Taxi and take a scenic trip on the river to picturesque villages such as St Mawes. Stop at a riverside pub such as the 13th-century Pandora Inn or visit the National Trust’s Trelissick House and Gardens.

Discover more of our local tips and tricks in our guest guide, which you will receive upon booking.

Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Cornwall, we would recommend bringing a vehicle with you for your stay. There is free dedicated parking for one car, otherwise free on street parking. That said, you can easily walk into Penryn and there are buses and trains darting from Penryn to Falmouth and Truro. Regular trains run from Truro to London Paddington throughout the week.

Interaction with Guests:
We will be available via message, email and phone during your stay. Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
Make yourself comfortable in this vacation home, which features a fireplace. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Conveniences include a microwave and a washing machine.
Take in the views from a garden and make use of amenities such as barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Family Weekend
We would all like to thank Will for allowing us to stay in his lovely comfortable cottage for a family weekend. We came as a family to scatter my late Mum's ashes, she used to stay in Cornwall all the time with my stepdad in their caravan. The cottage was everything we wanted and more. We would love to come back again for a longer break next time, so we can explore more with our dog and grandchildren. Thanks again x

Lots of character and plenty of room
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights and we used it as a base for dropping our daughter off at Falmouth Uni. The cottage is cosy and has lots of character. It was obvious that this property is a family's holiday home as there are lots of personal bits around the house, which some people might not like, but it didn't bother us. If you are staying with children there are plenty of books/games/garden toys etc to keep them entertained. It has a nice big garden which was great for our dog. We only used one bedroom, bed was comfy and it was all spotlessly clean. The cottage is located directly on a road, you have to unload your stuff and then go and park the car about 4 mins walk, up fairly steep steps, which might not be suitable for everyone. There is only one toilet which may be a problem if all 7 beds are being used. There are plenty of places to drink and eat within walking distance, we enjoyed The Thirsty Scholar, and a convenient Spar for all the essentials.

Charming
Easy to take buses from there. Quiet. Nice garden. Like most older places in Britain it smelled a bit musty. But it was very clean-just nothing to do about the fact that Cornwall is damp!

Character cottage with the mod coms
The cottage is very pretty, with character old blue & white crockery, and old style glasses. It has an expansive garden which could have housed a few herbs, though the flowers were lovely. The cottage has plenty of pillows rather than one per person style holiday housing, which made sleeping more comfortable. It was great to have a good dishwasher, washing machine & dryer!

Lovely short break away
We had a lovely few days spent staying in the house. It was perfect for our family of 5 and small dog. The garden was huge, and would love to have spent more time enjoying it, but we chose the wrong time of year with the weather. House was clean and cosy, piano was a nice addition, and so was the big selection board games (useful for when it rained). Shops/takeaways were all a short walk away, so we were well catered for.
