Holidays in Playa Negra

It's simple — a life full of adventure is a life well-lived. So dig out your passport, pack your bags and say hello to Playa Negra!

Just 30 kilometres to the north, you'll discover plenty to see and do in Potrero. From Flamingo Beach through to Conchal Beach, there's something for everyone.

Does a stroll along the shore sound like an amazing way to spend a day? Consider organising a day trip to Hermosa Bay Beach or Coco Beach.

Looking for a little time out with Mother Nature? Start up the car and head out to Las Baulas de Guanacaste National Marine Park, 16 kilometres away from Playa Negra. Alternatively, take a breath of fresh air at El Viejo Wetlands, 45 kilometres away.

How about a stop at Callejones Beach? It's the perfect spot to enjoy some extra time.

Be sure to visit other nearby sights, such as the Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course and Grande Beach. These are situated 4 kilometres north in Pinilla. Not ready to return the rental car just yet? Blanca Beach and Avellana Beach are in Junquillal, 5 kilometres to the south of Playa Negra.

Whether it's for shopping or to explore the sights, locals and visitors alike often take a day trip to Nosara, 35 kilometres to the southeast. Safari Surf School, Frog Pad and Nosara Beach are all close at hand. That said, you shouldn't miss Nosara Wildlife Rescue and the Nosara Spanish Institute either.

'There is no love sincerer than the love of food,' according to George Bernard Shaw, but throw travel into the mix and it's a match made in heaven. You're invited to indulge in your two loves by eating and drinking your way across North Pacific Coast.

A meal here tends to include pork and chicken, two commonly used ingredients for which the area is known for serving up.

When the locals talk about food, you might hear casado or arroz con pollo (rice and chicken) uttered a few times. These specialty dishes form part of the region's identity and ought to be on any food lover's list.

If you never refuse the dessert menu, you won't be disappointed. Try tres leches (custard flan), a scrumptious treat that's guaranteed to hit your sweet spot.

Ready for a drink? Throw back a glass or two of Bavaria, a beer that ought to be on your bucket (or pint) list.

Searching for something a little stronger? You can't go past Ron Centenario. Ask the bar person if it's nice in any cocktails and mixed drinks. If that fails, order up a shot and throw it down straight!

Talk to any avid traveller and they'll tell you that the best way to get more from your time away is to try out a few local words and phrases. Firstly, have a go at saying 'Buenos días'. It means 'good morning'. 'Muchas gracias', which means 'thank you', is also rather common.
