Affordable Nice Hotel with No Elevator
The staff at Inn at St. John could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We had a nice room on the top floor. However, I should have read the website more carefully when we arrived with a lot of heavy luggage. I didn't realize there was no elevator. The next time, I will request a room on a lower floor. Also, the mattress could stand to be replaced soon as it sagged noticeably.

The inn is quite pretty and full of character and our room was large and clean. Our room faced the street and it was pretty loud, so loud it sounded like our window was open. We played brown noise during the night, which helped. The breakfast was good, but not a lot of seating, which was ok. We ended up just taking it to our room. Loved having breakfast included.

The property was okay. Probs: Staff was very kind. The room was spacious. Cons: The bed was terrible, so old and uncomfortable! The windows were old - we could hear everything from the street which was quite loud past midnight. Also, our room was on the 3rd floor… there’s no elevator and no help to get luggage upstairs, so we were left to haul our luggage up three very steep/narrow flights of stairs. It was fine for a night, but probably wouldn’t stay here again.

The hotel is a unique, old hotel. However, it does not have an elevator. The rooms have no place to hang clothes. The lighting could be better. The room has a private bathroom, but it is off the hall. The room does have a sink, which is convenient. There is no control for heat in the room. There is a small refrigerator in the room, as well as a small microwave and coffee maker.

When we arrived at this property- it was raining. There was no parking spots left in the lot and the overflow is on the street. Upon checking in, we had to ask how to get our things into the hotel with no parking spots as we were halfway down the block. Was not aware that there are NO elevators and had to haul all suitcases up stairs. The other “kid” behind the desk could have offered to help. We were not the only guests checking in that were surprised that we had to carry suitcases up a steep staircase. The NOISE was incredibly loud from the street if you have a room in the front of the hotel. It quiets down in the middle of the night- around 1am, but starts up again at 6am. The room was nice and large, clean.

My friend and I rented a room that did not come with a bathroom so we had to use the shared one. The shower in the shared bathroom was very small. I’m 5’1” and it was still a little tight. The toilet and sink were fine. The bedroom was okay. Had a mini fridge, microwave and sink which were all convenient, especially the sink. Only complaints or suggestions I have is that having a mirror close to the sink would be nice and maybe a couple hooks on the wall (near sink and a couple elsewhere). Their parking lot is super small but they give you a parking pass to park along the street and they have a designated parking lot with certain spots for their guests which is very close by. No elevator, but I only had a personal bag so I was fine with no elevator. Only reason I wouldn’t come back is because of the tiny shower. I have to shower everyday.

Nice quaint hotel in Portland ME. My room had it's own bathroom (most rooms I believe had shared bathrooms, so you must specifically look for rooms that specify they have their own when making a reservation). The free breakfast consists of breads/bagels, donuts, cereal, juices, tea and of course coffee. The breakfast area is very small, so it may be best to eat in the lobby or in your own room. Wi-fi was good. One warning: the hotel parking has only about 10 parking spaces, there is street parking, but they have signs that limit what hours you can park there, so pay attention to those signs if you cannot park in the hotel lot. A parking tag is given to you upon checkin to put on your rear view mirror. If you park in the lot and do not want to drive out and risk losing your spot, Uber and Lyft are available, which I used to go to the Old Port area. I would recommend this venue for short (2 nights or fewer) stays.

This is a quaint Victorian Style Inn. We loved the style and decor. Great continental breakfast and awesome staff. Don’t miss out. It is a short drive to Commercial Street and the piers.
