The hotel was overall great value for money. Excellent location, a few minutes walk from Gunwharf Quays and a nice longer walk to Portsmouth city centre. We got there early, before check-in time and they let us park our car in one of the hotel allocated spaces, which was amazing.
We were originally allocated a room on the second floor, but it was right next to a really loud generator. As we stayed on one of the hottest day of the summer, there was no way we would have been able to sleep with the windows open and that noise next to our window. We were able to change room, to a room on the third floor, a bit farther from the generator (which seems to be on both sides of the hotel). There was a small fan in the room, which helped with the heat. However, the generator was still pretty loud overnight, especially when it switched itself back on at 4am. I'm sure it would not be a problem if you stayed in winter.
The doors slam really loudly in the corridor too - if you are a light sleeper, this might be a problem.
That aside, the room was really nice and the bed was very comfortable.
Breakfast was excellent! It was a buffet with everything you could think of, from cooked items (bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausages, hash browns, fried bread) to yogurt granola, toast with jam, etc. Everything was replenished as it run out.
