Words cannot adequately express how much we enjoyed our stay in Vivenda Gomes. It was wonderful.
The house itself is a little gem of a traditional Azorian home, but with modern updates to provide all possible comforts. The fact that there was a washing machine meant that I didn't have to pack so many clothes. The house is within easy walking distance of the natural swimming pool, a great café and a terrific restaurant.
Our host, Paolo Gomes, was so kind. He was attentive to our every need, and went above and beyond to assure that we were comfortable and entertained. Some examples: we expressed interst in the bullfights - a schedule appeared; we mentioned that we were musicians - a guitar appeared; we asked about how to get a pay-as-you- go phone - one was loaned to us; we said we preferred not to rent a car - the bus schedule was provided, as well as the taxi dispatch number. Paulo and both of his parents checked up on us periodically to see if we needed everything. They are sweet, kind people.
The inhabitants of the village of Porto Martins are beautiful: open, friendly, kind and generous. In just two weeks, we feel that we have made life-long friends. From our first evening, we were invited to the homes of people to share fun, good food and drink, and you can always find someone interesting to talk to at the café. It was a truly magical experience. We can't wait to come back.
