Been partying too much after work? Dying for a break and a few quiet nights? Kapchagay has your name all over it. It sits among the mountains, steppe and desert landscapes of Kazakhstan — nice and off the beaten track. (We reckon you'll feel so relaxed, you'll be under the covers by sunset!)

It's situated 920 kilometres southeast of Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan.

The little ones won't be disappointed by a fun-filled excursion to Kapchagay Waterpark.

You shouldn't miss the splendid landscapes of Central Park. It's a marvellous place to make the most of a clear day.

If your visit happens to coincide with a good dump of snow, you'll see many skiers and snowboarders loading up their cars for some teeth-chattering thrills at Shymbulak Ski Resort.

Seeking some other close-by destinations? Kamennoye Plato is only 40 kilometres to the south, so jump in the car and start exploring! Alternatively, Talgar, 65 kilometres south of Kapchagay, is also worthy of a day trip.

Tourists often make the journey to Almaty. This place is 70 kilometres to the south and not far from Presidential Palace, Republic Square and Almaty Tower. If you're staying a while, remember to stop by Almaty Cathedral and the National Museum of Kazakhstan.

You can expect an air of fever and excitement around the 16th of December. The locals will be preparing for Independence Day, a day of nation-wide celebrations.

Getting to your plane on time can be a bit of an ordeal. However, it won't be too bad if you're prepared. The nearest terminal, Almaty International Airport (ALA), is 55 kilometres to the south.
