Beautiful remote inn, helpful hosts, buffet continental breakfast with a wide variety of fresh and delicious items, perfectly clean and easily accessible hot tub on deck, clean and nice-sized rooms, comfortable beds, hot water shower, easy access to plug-ins for cell phones, awesome and delicious dinner. Very happy with our stay!
We stayed here for 1 night because the shuttle pickup for Landmannalaugar was right there. The room was nice and clean. The hot tub right outside the building was an unexpected bonus. The included breakfast was good. That was really helpful because there's not much around that area. There is a restaurant on site and they serve great food.
I was expecting a location closer to the mountain with more activities available in the immediate vicinity. That probably could not be helped due to the fact that Hekla is an active volcano, but we did not have much we could do without some driving.
Think carefully before booking your stay here:
Whilst on a map this hotel looks well located if you are travelling between the 3 main tourist attractions of Iceland and the South; it is actually quite awkward to get to, having to double-back on yourself for around 60km distance. It took 1.5hours to get there from Gulfoss. Despite the appearances of the double rooms on their website, what we actually got given was a twin room in a basement by the sauna and the shared bathroom facilities, although clean, were reminiscent of those of a public British swimming pool. Only one of the hot tubs was clean for use, although it was a nice facility to have access to. The room itself was very basic and cramped, just the 2 beds, an old chair, a tiny bedside table and a small shelf with a few hangers.
Overall a disappointing experience despite the appearances advertised on their website - I'm glad we only stayed there for one night.

Basic needs away from the ring road
Be aware that this hotel is not near the ring road, but a good 15-20 minutes up a road in the midst of farms. For basic accommodations, this was fine. It wasn't noisy and we had hot water. The interpretive center seemed closed. We did not partake of the hot springs tubs but they were clean.
I absolutely loved my stay here! The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, the rooms spartan but clean, and the overall service wonderful. I really enjoyed using the outdoor hot tub! My favorite part about this hotel is that it's in a really remote area, so it's surrounded by gorgeous Icelandic countryside. Also you can ask the owners to go riding for a reasonable fee - they have incredible horses.
WiFi in room would have been nice, but we were let in Iceland to surf the web.
Area was very nice, far away from all the tourist spots and close to many sights.
Room was simple, clean, staff was friendly and the restaurant was very good

Typical Islandic stay.
Been to several hotels in iceland and you shouldn't expect much in the room. They are basically a bed and a bathroom. This hotel had shared toilet with separate shower stalls outside the room.
If you don't expect much as in other bigger town hotels, it'll be fine. The owners were nice. Helped with luggage. Nice offering of breakfast which makes up for the room. Room was very small, had bunk bed and a single bed but a very small room. But, if you just need a place to crash, it'll be fine. The main building has WiFi and a lounge upstairs which was nice. Restaurant was nice too. Nice view of mountain.
First of all, the information on-line through hotels.com said the hotel was in Hella......and it is 16 miles out of town. The picture on the site showed a lovely room for two with the advertisement of an outdoor lava stone hot tub! When I
made reservations on my phone that same afternoon, the screen didn't show the 'shared bathroom' part of the reservation, just a double room, which our room turned out to have bunk beds! And the hot tub outside our quarters, was a plastic hot tub! The breakfast was very good. The manager tried to help us a bit but all other rooms were booked. We had tried to call hotels.com from Iceland to cancel once we figured out the location, but the answering que didn't ever let us access someone to talk to which was also upsetting! So, it appears to be a nice place, but our experience was lacking.

Friendly, helpful staff.
Nice surroundings, especially walking through the lava fields.
Nice thermal pool but wished it was hot, not just lukewarm.
The hot tub was good though.
Breakfast buffet was good.
The restaurant for an evening meal was way overpriced but delicious (lamb).
The shower water pressure was pretty weak.
Our GPS was acting up & we emailed the hotel for directions. They were very responsive & helpful. We had to arrive late & the owners stayed up to welcome us. They were very gracious. The scenery near Mt Heckla was gorgeous. We enjoyed the hot tubs. The restaurant was excellent & prepared meals to accommodate allergies. We loved the fresh bread at the breakfast buffet. We didn't know ahead there are horses onsite & will include horseback riding on our next visit. Wifi was available in the shared area of the main building. Staff were all professional & courteous & helped us with our itinerary. An enjoyable two nights.

If you had been expecting a backpackers bunk bed quarters then this would have been fine. When I booked it, I was under the impression it was a hotel room with shared bathroom facilities. It was a tight squeeze with the four of us and two bunk beds very close together. The location does have hotel rooms as well as backpacker quarters. Just be sure which it is that you are booking. It was very expensive given the size of the room. Overall, not a good value. We had many other hotels in Iceland with a better value. The hotel is very out of the way unless you wanted to be close to the Golden Circle. It is not near the ring road. The breakfast was very good.
We stayed in both the bunk house and in the regular hotel rooms. Both room types had very comfortable mattresses. The bunkhouse has a toilet down the hall and shower rooms. If you want to share space with others and save some money, then that is a good way to go. We enjoyed the regular hotel rooms and private bathrooms very much. That building had WiFi in the lobby and in the upstairs common room. The scenery is gorgeous. There is a whirlpool and a couple of outdoor hot tubs. The breakfast buffet featured several types of fresh baked bread. Staff were very friendly and attentive and genuinely cared that we were comfortable. The restaurant onsite had excellent food and worked with the two members of our party who have food allergies. There are also horses onsite for trail rides. One of our party left a bag behind at a previous stop and the owner helped get in contact to retrieve the bag, which ended up being flown to Reykjavik's regional airport at the end of the trip so we could have it before departure. This was one of our most pleasant experiences out of five positive experiences in hotels on this visit to Iceland. We would return and recommend it to friends.
Stayed 2 nights there. Very Pleasant surrounding, convenient for Landmanalaugar. If satying at teh hotel per se, you can enjoy a hot bath, as you see steam coming out from the deep grass nearby. Still, you should try the Viking tub, 100 yard further away, and enjoy a genuine bath that only horses behind may witness!
Unfortunately I booked my Iceland accommodation too late to have much choice at all-for summer months you need to book at least 3 months in advance esp if want to stay away from SW corner. Consequently we had to book a room without en suite facilities which we were relaxed about. However rooms without bathrooms are very basic; more like hostel accommodation, with no wardrobes or drawers. These rooms are in the basement of the owner's house, they do have windows. We were told we could upgrade to a room with en suite facilities and these appeared to be EXCELLENT but we were then told it was only available for one night and we didn't want to be changing rooms. The room we stayed in ended up being very noisy as another group occupied several rooms
so they shouted from one room to another and subsequently got up very early!
Hotel is located a few km from Mt Hekla and some 30km from Hella. There are no eating options within half hour's drive. In house restaurant is good but quite expensive.
Free fast internet in the large sitting area above the lobby. Bathroom was modern and clean. Rooms were nice and beds comfortable (extra pillows as needed provided in room). Midnight sun was in effect, so we had brought our own eye masks. Breakfast was included in our rate and very delicious and plenty of choices of meats, cereals, fresh rye bread, milk, yogurt, juices, vegetables, etc. Beautiful location as we had wonderful view of the nearby volcano Helka!
