This is a good option to stay in town. Everything else is very expensive. The place has a share kitchen and dinning room area which helps saving money on food if you are willing to prepare your own food since restaurants are very expensive in the area. Bathroom and showers are clean as well as beds. 3 blocks away from the main street in town. Safe and quiet at night. Overall, a good option. Thank you!
As a solo traveler for a week in Iceland, I really felt safe at Barons hostel! There were plenty of showers and bathrooms that were always kept spotless, everyone was respectful of shared spaces and nighttime was so quiet by 9pm on everyday! Within walking distance to tour bus stops, rainbow street and plenty of places to eat or get groceries. Don’t forget to check out the public pools next door! I only wish that people maybe didn’t camp out in the kitchen during busy meal times, sometimes there wasn’t a space to eat while others worked on computers or just socialized. Otherwise absolutely fantastic stay and I highly recommend!

Typical Hostel setup
Typical hostel, but hotel prices (welcome to Iceland). Bare minimum in rooms. Shared bathrooms/toilets also pretty basic. No place for clothing, hooks broken off. Shared kitchen with everything needed. Not really any lounge area.
Kitchen and dining area good and clean. Staff very approachable and willing to help. Location is very near to grocery stores Bonus and Extra. Also, very near Hallgrimskirkja.
Customer service was good and staff was very helpful. Kitchens were clean and had everything you needed. The only thing is the cold showers if you don’t want to smell like sulfur from the geothermal heating. But otherwise, highly recommend it.
The staff for check in was wonderful, he came with me to confirm where I parked was ok. The entrance was around the back which was confusing, there are 2 different hostels in the building. It is very close to the church and the main downtown. The bed and linens were comfortable and was lovely to see a towel. Iceland is expensive and this was the most I have ever paid for a hostel! Still a fantastic 1 day layover, I will be back!
My flight was delayed and canceled. Hotel was contacted immediately but they said it’s short notice and refuse to refund reservation. I showed up at hotel a day late and check into room. Got half undressed and lay on bed to rest. Suddenly a man open my door and walk in. I was terrified and asked him to leave as this is my room. He looked at me and walk in the room like he owns it, despite I’m being half dressed. I almost screamed. He walk around the room saying he works here and just checking the doors and amenities. I went to reception to complain and everyone ignore me. It turns out the man was their maintenance guy who works in the building. But that does not grant him any right to enter my room while I was inside and half dressed. He never apologize. He told me to go back to China (even though I am from the US and am a US citizen). He screamed at me saying this is their land, their property and their rule. If I don’t like it, I need to leave. Needless to say, I pack my belongs and ran as fast as I could.
DONT take room 305, next to lift and lift room, u cv an hear it all night and other aise toilets.
Other than thaz great place clean, roomy and nice kitchen, good wifi and in middle of town, 5 min walk zo Rainbow Rd and 5 min to Church.
