Old-time barbershops and Cuban restaurants line the streets, alongside bars with live music.
Colorful Carytown is a bohemian district centered around a stretch of West Cary Street, with indie boutiques, record stores, and vintage emporiums. Quirky murals brighten alleyways and buildings housing cool cafes, bakeries, and health-conscious lunch spots, while evening crowds fill farm-to-table restaurants and craft cocktail bars. Operating since 1928, the Byrd Theater screens movies in opulent surroundings.
Museum District also known as Upper Fan, the compact Museum District is home to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, with works by Picasso and Fabergé. Nearby, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture houses exhibits on state heritage in an elegant neoclassical building. Brick row homes and detached townhouses in hues of spearmint, navy, and yellow line the streets, and old-growth trees and bold street murals add further color.
