The Lakeside Caboose - Oregon Beach Vacations


Welcome to The Lakeside Caboose, located in beautiful Rockaway Beach! Nestled in between Lake Lytle and the Pacific, this bright and airy cabin was historically the last house on the edge of Rockaway's city limits, inspiring its name, The Lakeside Caboose. The home sleeps up to eight guests in three bedrooms downstairs (King, King w/bunk beds and a Queen) with two full bathrooms. Upstairs, you will find an inviting open space with amazing views of the lake to the east and the ocean to the west. The kitchen and living room are also located on the second floor, with a half bath tucked off to the side. The cabin was completely remodeled in 2019 but still retains some vintage charm with a 1950’s era stove in the farmhouse-inspired kitchen. We have binoculars available for whale watching, or you might even spot the resident Bald Eagles that nest on the far side of the lake.

While staying in Rockaway Beach, be sure to get out and explore the shops and restaurants located right off of Highway 101. You'll be able to find the perfect souvenir for friends and family back home. You can also explore the beach or go fishing in the lake, so bring your fishing gear! Travel north into Seaside, and explore the beautiful boardwalk, or travel south into Tillamook for a tour of the factory where they produce delicious dairy and beef products. Excellent Place to Stay!

The house is located close to the beach, is quiet, well-stocked, and has great views. Close to stores and shops. The property has A LOT of stairs to get in and to the main living area. I wish I had known that. My elderly parents found this very challenging. That’s the one downside. Overall, a great trip and nice place to stay!

Great property

We enjoyed our stay here, we picked this house because of the large tables and large kitchen, so we could have my parents and brothers family over for dinners while we all stayed in Rockaway. The only thing we missed having was a bbq (we didn’t realize there wasn’t one when we booked). The bedrooms and bathrooms were perfect for us. Everything was clean.

Great rental with views

Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds which is critical. Views are fabulous, can see lake on one side and ocean on other! Great family rental, would absolutely rent again. VERY close to beach, easy beach access down the street. Right near 101 and there is some road noise, but only when it's totally quiet outside and only occasionally. It was not a factor, but given its location, wanted to mention this in case it was a concern for someone considering this home.

Nice little house with room enough for 7 people, primarily adults. Furnishings were not the best, but did the job. Great lication close to beach, but not actually on the beach. Overall solid house at a readonable rate for what we were looking for.

2nd time staying and loved it again!

House was very clean. LOTS of towels and bedding available. We adore the location and there’s plenty of room for my family of 4 - love that both of my kids (19 y.o. Is 5’10” and 16 y.o. son is 6’3”) are comfy with their own rooms and big beds. Having 2 king beds and a queen is hard to find in this price range!! Beautiful views of beach and lake. Kids enjoyed flying the kite that was there. The water pressure in the master shower is better than at home. Kitchen has lots of dishes, silverware, bowls, pots and pans and glassware. I wish we’d remembered to bring the foil/plastic wrap and leftover containers as there aren’t any supplied. Otherwise, we could have stayed here for WEEKS!

view of the lake and ocean was a plus! short walk to the beach. Although it rained all day on our 2nd day, we were able to visit indoors, took naps & played board games. Would love to stay here again in the future!

Not the best for small children

Upon arrival to the property I was a little confused on the parking and how to get up to the house. Everything appears overgrown and you have to pull off into the bushes to park. There are a lot of stairs to get into the house. The bedrooms are downstairs and the living room, dining room and kitchen are upstairs. This was extremely difficult with small children. The kitchen was very outdated with old appliances that didn’t work. The bedrooms had a very musty smell to them and no door to separate the master bathroom and the master bedroom which I found odd. Overall a decent big house but I would not recommend this house to anyone with small children.

Quick walk to the beach .

Property was easy to find, very clean , lots of sleeping areas and with three bathrooms was comfortable for all. The roof is in need or repair as it was covered with a tarp that flapped in the wind. Parking is rough if you have more than two cars. Thankfully we only had two😉. We enjoyed our stay very much..

Nothing but Views

After a jaunt up the stairs, you are met with amazing views of the lake with mountain range and the ocean. The upstairs is open concept allow for natural light to come pouring in. There is even a view from the upstairs bathroom while you are washing your hands. My favorite feature was the window above the stove, I want that view/setup at my house. The kitchen is well setup (though someone before is used all the salt) and was very easy to make home cooked meals as a family. Downstairs was all of the bedrooms. The beds were comfortable with nice linens. The handsoaps are goats milk and smell delightful. The laundry detergent that the sheets and towels are cleaned with is not hypoallergenic and did cause one of our group to be very itchy. I would strongly recommend this place and hope to bring the family back in the future.

Great view, clean and roomy home

The house was clean and well stocked in bathrooms and kitchen. Lots of seating and room to relax. Remodeled kitchen is nice and there is lots of counter space. Great large tv in living room. Provides a great view of Lake Lytle and the ocean with multiple beach access points within a block or two. Only thing I wished I’d known was that you need to climb multiple sets of stairs to enter home as its on a hill. I would have packed differently had I known I’d be lugging everything up so many stairs.
