I'll start first that while Smeraldo is tucked deep into Campo de Fiori neighborhood, it is ideal for those familiar with the area and especially first time visitors such as myself. If youre traveling with small children or elderly, just know that the area requires a lot of walking without metro near but taxis at the hotel. My stay was especially brightened by Leonardo, one of the hotel staff, who was always cheerful, assisted with all my needs and questions, and just an all around great guy to talk to. I really enjoyed my stay and recommend first timers to travel light, use a good pack to avoid the heavy cobblestones, and always, always, always make meal reservations for any place in the vicinity.

Our stay was amazing, the staff were very kind and helpful. The breakfast was great with options for everyone. The location was very convenient for us because it was near all the spots we wanted to visit. The room was small but it worked for us, the only thing that we didn’t like was the mattress because it was a little hard.

Excellant location. We booked a Superior room but it was very small. Not enough storage for a 6 night stay. We will rebook this hotel but upgrade to a higher catagory and ask for room 208 or 307. Great staff lovely breakfast and unlimited cappuccino

Helpful staff, loved the rooftop lounge! Breakfast was great too! Our room was really warm and the traffic and noise from the street was unbearably loud. We would not stay here again unless we were on the courtyard side.

My first time in Italy, and staying at Hotel Smeraldo was a fantastic choice. Every amenity was exceptional, exactly as described on booking sites. Staff: The team was excellent—always friendly, attentive, and ready to help. Whenever I needed assistance, they were there with clear explanations, making my stay even more special. Food: Breakfast was wonderful, with a great variety of well-prepared and beautifully presented options. The café staff was incredibly helpful, ensuring each morning started perfectly. Room: The room was spectacular, always clean and orderly, with a privileged view of the main street, allowing me to experience the charm of Rome’s historic center from the start. Location: The location is unbeatable, close to all major sites, with travel times ranging from 5 to 20 minutes. There are also a variety of restaurants within a 3-minute walk, and on Saturdays, there’s a nearby market that adds an authentic touch to the experience. Thank you to the Hotel Smeraldo team for a memorable experience in the heart of Rome. Highly recommended!"

It was just OK
We had stayed here before and loved it so we came back. This time we had a much smaller room and even though the days were warm, the hotel turned the AC off and switched to heat. Sleeping was hard as the rooms were hot and uncomfortable. The rooftop bar was great and the staff wonderful.

Good 3 star option in a 5 star location
To be honest I was a little underwhelmed by the actual hotel, maybe it just wasn’t the hotel for me. the rooms are tiny but clean. Unfortunately the AC control was malfunctioning so didn’t work. Front office staff were efficient. Must compliment the breakfast team, good choices and fab coffee. The location is great and all of Rome’s sights are easily within walking distance. There is a plethora of dinning options at the front door. Also a supermarket just 100 metres away. A good 3 star hotel in an excellent location.

This hotel is well located and withing easy walking distance to most of the major sites in the historic Rome area. This was our second stay at this hotel and both times we were warmly greeted. Location consists of the main hotel building, where we stayed last time, and an annex across the street where we stayed for this visit. Rooms are all outfitted in similar fixtures and furnishings. The annex was a bit more quiet. We liked both, and both have elevators. The included breakfast buffet is well stocked and properly served. The breads were very good. Being only a short walk from Campo d Fiori marketplace is also a plus.
