Waterfront Home with Pier on Albemarle Beach

Our piece of heaven---a 3-bedroom cottage on the Albemarle Sound near the mouth of the Roanoke River---can be your vacation spot and fishing mecca. Enjoy your time at The Crow's Nest by relaxing in the hammock on the corner porch, rocking on the front porch watching the water activities, or being part of the water activities.

The 50-foot pier with a large deck at the end is a great place to enjoy the day but, especially, the sunset. The low deck and ladder provide easy access to a sandy-bottom swim area about 4- to 5-feet deep (NO DIVING). Lots of space for making memories with family and friends.

A paddle board and two kayaks are available for your enjoyment while you are at the Crow's Nest.

If bringing your boat, nearby Mackey's Marina offers slips and a boat ramp. The closest wildlife ramps are Roanoke River at Highway 45, Connaby Creek, and Plymouth.

This part of the Albemarle Sound offers excellent fishing ground for white perch, rock, bass, crabs, and other species. You can fish directly from the bulkhead and pier or take your boat to Swan's Bay, the Roanoke River, Mackey's Creek, or Batchelor's Bay. For a longer expedition, you could cross the Sound to Edenton (roughly 6 miles) and the Chowan River or head 10 miles east to the Highway 32 car bridge.

The Outer Banks is approximately an hour’s drive away and offers many attractions, such as the NC Aquarium, Wright Brothers Memorial, Jockey's Ridge, Elizabethan Gardens, Jeannette's Pier, and the Atlantic Ocean.

If you're interested in nature and wildlife, you should check out Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, Lake Mattamuskeet, or the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Bear and wildlife tours are offered seasonally.

If history and culture are your thing, check out Somersett Plantation at Phelps Lake on the Pettigrew State Park; go in to Plymouth and explore the waterfront, the Roanoke River Lighthouse and Maritime Museum, the Bear Museaum, and Port-o-Plymouth History/Civil War Museum; or venture to Edenton to tour the Historic District including the Cupola House, the Iredell House, and the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse.

The Crow's Nest offers 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, plus an outside shower, all on one floor. It sleeps up to 9 people and has one central living room with seating and a large-screen TV. A screened-in porch wraps around 3 sides of the cottage and has rocking chairs as well as corner benches to catch the best breeze.

Dine inside or out. The bar counter in the kitchen seats 6 and a round table seats 4-5 more. The large picnic table on the front porch seats up to 8.

Full kitchen stocked with all the essentials and some extras. Electric stove/oven, double sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven.

Both charcoal and gas grills are available. A second full-size refrigerator is on the porch.
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned vacation home, featuring a kitchen with a refrigerator and an oven. There's a private patio. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a Smart television is provided for your entertainment. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.
This smoke-free vacation home features books, games, and ecotours nearby. Recreational activities include kayaking nearby, sailing nearby, and water skiing nearby.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Best VRBO getaway
Our family of 6 adults and 2 children, ages 3 and 6, had the best time at this rental. The pictures on VRBO are exactly the way the house looked when we arrived. The porch is absolutely amazing. You're actually closer to the water than we thought. Our weather wasn't the best, but the porch made it a terrific time. The kids were able to be entertained running back and forth, playing cornhole, playing with their toys, and just having fun. We did manage to get out on the dock and had them try to do some crabbing and fishing but the wind made the water pretty rough, so they just enjoyed getting sprayed by the waves. The adults just chilled on the porch and enjoyed the breeze and cooler weather. My husband and I are from Las Vegas so it was a real treat. We cooked 2 nights and played a lot of games Cooking was easy, the hosts have made sure you had everything you needed. We will be booking here again when we get back East. Thank you for letting us enjoy your terrific house and location. Deb and Dave

Vacation at Albemarle Beach
We enjoyed every minute. There were lots of games, water toys and books provided. No shortage of things yo do around the home. The back porch and location right on the water added to the overall vacation experience. The home was very welcoming decorated. The communication with the host was excellent. One down point was that it was not as clean as I would have liked it to be. I did not care for the poison mousetraps, seeing we had our dog with us.

Paradise on the Sound
This was our first trip to the Albemarle Sound and we are so lucky to have found this little gem to rent. The cottage is quaint and you can see all the love that has been poured into it over and the years. The kitchen is equipped with all you will need on your vacation. There was an abundance of water toys, life jackets, canoes & kayaks. My family loved all of them. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the wrap around porch in the rocking chairs watching the humming birds, purple martins and geese that floated by. We will definitely return to the Crows Nest.

Serenity on the Albemarle Sound
Beautiful sunrises and sunsets as well as peace and serenity on the rocking chair lined screened porch overlooking the sound. We saw purple martins, hummers, duck, geese, rabbits & fish jumping up out of the water. Cottage was roomy and had everything you need.

great water view
A nice vintage cottage with a great water view from the screened in deck; loved watching those purple martins every day. Almost no traffic near here and very quiet most of the day. The kitchen was somewhat dated but overall very nice. Was surprised to see mouse traps in the house.

Birthday Weekend
My husband and I booked this place for a weekend trip for my birthday. I really wished that we would have stayed longer. The house was well organized and cozy. I loved the wrap around screened in porch. The water was just steps away from the porch. It was very soothing. The beds were very comfy and clean. The whole house was very clean. If you are just spending some time hanging out in the house, then there is plenty to do. So many books and games to keep you entertained. We had a very nice stay.

Great destination and a great hub for exploring
If all you want to do is sit on an expansive screened in porch and stare at the water in the Albemarle Sound, this is your place. But if you also want to venture out and explore sights within 30 minutes in many directions, this is your place. My wife, daughter, son-in-law, myself and our two small dogs love the water. But we also love exploring towns and cities near wherever we go. Edenton is a wonderful town with many historic homes and churches and doggone good restaurants. It’s only 30 minutes from the house. There are also several historic homes outside of Edenton that are easy drives from the house. The house itself is extremely clean, well organized and comfortable and has a great classic beach cottage vibe. Plus, the parking is ample and there is a great place next to the water for pets to exercise. Add in the fact that the hosts are extremely communicative and easy to reach and you have a perfect stay.

Real Vacation - Simple and Relaxing
Our family including our dogs love this place! This was our third time at this house after staying here twice last year. We enjoyed fishing off the private dock, paddle boarding and kayaking on the calm flat Albemarle Sound. Since we have only found two really outstanding restaurants in the area, members of our family took turns cooking, so we got to enjoy our meals on the picnic table on the screened in back porch in view of the sound. The house is older, so it's understandably imperfect and has its quirks, but these make this place more endearing to us. The house is well equipped and has plenty of supplies for travelers who forget things.

Great family getaway
This is a return trip, we enjoyed it alot. The home is in a quiet neighborhood right on the water. The oldest grandson loves the outdoor shower. The kids loved being able to fish from the dock. They caught a variety of fish and even blue crabs. We will be back! The host responded right away if we had any questions.
