Room wasn’t cleaned properly and didn’t meet the description. When I asked for a clean room which matched the description of when we booked they provided another room which was not to the description or been cleaned properly. Poor customer service, no sympathy or care.

When we arrived at the hotel, a member of the reception team looked at us and did not greet us, she just looked at us in disgust until another member of the team assisted us. When we arrived in our room it became apparent that the bathroom was dirty, there was a dirty wipe left and around the plug and taps looked unclean, there was also evidence of mould. We complained to reception and were assigned a new room which was cleaner but the bathroom was still run down and had mould, it was not as clean as we had hoped. The pool in the photos looks significantly bigger than in reality, we were hoping to make use of it but it was very busy and not what we expected. We tried to use the vending machine but unfortunately this did not work also. The shower in the room had great pressure but the shower curtains are unhygienic and the temperature kept changing from freezing cold to red hot which was unpleasant. Parking was fine initially on arrival but after going to the redwood tree walk at night, all spaces were taken and we had to park on the road. Overall, the hotel was satisfactory, it provided a place to stay for one night on our trip although it was out of the town centre, most of the staff were friendly (minus the woman on reception!) and the bed was comfortable, it’s just a shame the cleanliness of the hotel wasn’t up to standard.

Great for a Rotorua stay!
Rydges is a lovely hotel. We were sorry that we only stayed for one night. Right in the heart of the geothermal area - we could see the steam from our room! As we arrived late evening decided to try the buffet at the hotel which turned out to be pretty amazing!! Would definitely recommend.

Great location. Helpful and friendly staff. The room was facing west so it got pretty hot but apart from that I would definitely recommend staying here with a family. Awesome location.

Unfortunately our stay was troubled by dirty cups in the room and a shower that didn’t work. There was no solution to this despite someone coming to look at it twice. I would have expected to be moved rooms or at least get maintenance to review if it could be fixed.

This is a nice modern motel, which was very clean and comfortable. Very nice security guard on duty. The hot tub was wonderful to soak in after a long day of hiking. We enjoyed drinks at the bar and a wonderful buffet breakfast the next morning.

Our first night was spent in an old room that was not clean, with a bathroom with mold. We complained, and they moved us to a recently renovated room that matched the price we paid and met our expectations. Overall, the experience was bittersweet. I reckon they could have given us the good room from the beginning... The old room shouldn't be offered.
