Holidays in Rush Street

Is your phone wallpaper inspirational travel quotes? Does the airport make you as excited as a 4-year-old on Christmas morning? You’re a travel junkie, and it’s time to get your next fix in Rush Street, Chicago! With so many places to discover and things to do, it's not difficult to see why 2,700,000 people call this popular city home. To get to Rush Street from downtown Chicago, make your way north for 2 kilometres. From Midway International Airport, it's a drive of 16 kilometres to the northeast.

This city has no shortage of glorious things to do, and you'll discover many of them near Rush Street. It's not easy to pick the best attractions, but the Art Institute of Chicago and Sears Tower are two you shouldn't miss. You should also stop by the McCormick Place and the University of Illinois Chicago. For another perspective on the city, head to Magnificent Mile and Oak Street, nearby neighbourhoods just waiting to be explored.

If somehow you were unaware of Millennium Park, get ready to be inspired. This internationally renowned attraction is only 2 kilometres south of Rush Street.

There are endless reasons why so many travellers throng to the centre of Chicago. Navy Pier and the Lincoln Park Zoo are two of the best of them. You can't head back to your hotel without stopping at the Chicago Cultural Center and the Merchandise Mart as well.

On holiday without the kids? The Second City, Kingston Mines, Blues on Halstead and Dave & Buster's should be at the very top of your itinerary.

Like to give the noggin a workout? The Cloud Gate, the Athenaeum Theatre, the Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Crown Fountain are a few great cultural places.

Occasionally an artwork can speak so loudly to you that you have to learn about its background. See if the staff can enlighten you about the pieces at the Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum, the Fine Arts Building and the Loyola University Museum of Art.

Sometimes it's the main exhibits that excite us the most. Other times it's an underrated artefact that's been hidden away in a darkly lit corner. Keep an eye out for both at the Field Museum of Natural History, the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum, the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and the Driehaus Museum.

One of the indicators of a good performance tends to be the amount of applause when it's finished. See the audience rise to their feet at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre, House of Blues Chicago, the Chicago Theatre and the Steppenwolf Theatre.

Finding attractions to amuse the kids can be a priority when going on holiday with the family. Keep a lookout for the Chicago Children's Museum, John G. Shedd Aquarium, the Newberry Library and the Harold Washington Library Center.

If you're holidaying with the kids, they'll relish a couple of hours at one of the local action-packed attractions. Northerly Island Park, Amazing Chicago's Funhouse Maze and Pump It Up Party Zone are brilliant places for them to burn off a bit of steam.

An excellent way of checking the ocean temperature is by removing your shoes and socks and going for a paddle. Feel what the water's like at North Avenue Beach and Ohio Street Beach.

One of the most appealing things about this place is its nearby public parks. Amid all the action, you won't struggle to find a place to take a short walk or read a book. Lincoln Park, Grant Park, Humboldt Park and Lincoln Park Conservatory are great options.

The shopping experience is what you make it. Whether you have something in mind or just want to have a browse, you'll love your time at Maxwell Street Market, 900 North Michigan Shops, Logan Square Night Market and Sullivan Center.

You never know what truths you may uncover at John Hancock Center, the Buckingham Fountain, Chicago Water Tower and Tribune Tower. These historic sites have plenty of stories to tell.

Find out more about the region's spiritual aspects at Holy Name Cathedral, the Anshe Emet Synagogue, St Pius Church and St Adalbert Church. These places are worth visiting whether you're religious or not.

Witness the Chicago Bulls or the Chicago Blackhawks attempt to claim glory at their home ground of United Center. If your holiday to this destination doesn't line up with a game, see if any concerts are on and get ready to rock out!
