Beautiful building exterior and gardens. I loved the interior as well with what appeared to be many original features.
The check in process was weird or rather unconventional to me. I arrived at the property after 5pm so the sun had set. I needed to ring the doorbell to gain entry. Staff immediately opened the door to greet me. The unconventional part was that I was told to wait in the foyer while staff took my ID and credit card to an out of site area. I’ve stayed in many hotels and this was the first time I had been separated from my identification. I didn’t dwell too much on this detail after being given my key.
Staff walked me to my private studio apartment. It was quaint with most of the amenities I believed I needed for a one night business stay.
My primary issue was the bed. It looked lumpy and looked as if the person who made it had been in a hurry. My gut told me to peel the covers back. I found sheets that looked like they had been slept on, someone’s makeup on the comforter near where a person’s neck would have been, and a long hair strand. I called the front desk to request a bedding change while I went to dinner. When I returned the bed appeared to have been remade with presumably fresh sheets and the familiar lumpy appearance. However, I could not be comfortable and ultimately slept on top of bed w/out sheets. I give this place one star simply because guests always use beds in hotels so the utmost care and cleanliness should be given to the bed.
Loved my stay here. It was a comfortable walking distance to a lot of great restaurants in midtown. The staff here were incredibly kind and helpful. I would stay here a thousand times again

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service
The outside is great for parties and weddings which seems to be their top priority. The room was dilapidated, ceiling was stained and falling apart. Internet did not work.
Most TV stations did not work. Breakfast is basically cereal, nothing hot except toast. Parking is free but on the street in Sacramento, not protected.
Really great value for the money. We stayed there twice on either end of a Northern Cal vacation. The rooms are very nice, with HUGE bathrooms. The only pitfall is that the property is very old and needs some exterior upkeep. We did see someone working there doing repairs both times. Overall, I strongly recommend them.
Four of us needed a place to crash after attending a concert in Mid-town. The location was convenient. (We could have walked but because of the weather we choose to use Uber)
We had to ring the doorbell for over 5 minutes before the inn keeper came to the door. It's written that the offices are in the back and to be patient but it seemed a bit long considering it was just after 3pm which is when check-in starts. Once they came they were very helpful and friendly.
The room was great. Love the old style. That means the windows are old and had even small cracks between the frame BUT the heater worked well once we pumped it up a couple of degrees.
Breakfast is great. They offered hard boiled eggs and all the typical carbs and sugar offerings you would expect at a continental breakfast. My lower service review came from this . . . as an employee came through the breakfast room without asking if anyone needed anything. We ran out of coffee immediately afterwards and I had to go track him down in the back.
Overall is was a good experience and the rate was lower than anything else in the area. I would stay there again!
We loved the charm of the old building with beautiful wood floors.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
This is a great property with certain limitations.
This is a good place to crash but not spend too much time in the hotel room.
Some issues:
1. Hot water was very slow/delayed to come.
2. Our toilet blocked on the first day (without us throwing anything much in it) - thankfully Tony was excellent and gave us the penthouse for the night while he worked to rectify it.
3. Rooms are quite old.
