Apartment in the mountains and near Lake Annecy

Ken and Manchun welcome you to their Gite nestling on the mountainside only a short distance from Lake Annecy. With southerly panoramic views and easy access to the cycle path and mountain footpaths, you will never be short of adventures.

*************
COVID UPDATE :

So that we address, as far as possible, the concerns of our guests we will be introducing the following measures until further notice.

In order that we are able to fully cleanse the gite, we will be making our changeover gap longer. Guests can arrive AFTER 16.00 and must depart BY 10.00. This is in line with our pre-COVID conditions as we have found we can thoroughly cleanse the Gite within this timeframe.

With regard to arrival and departure, this will be done minimal contact. However, we live above the gite so we will be available to deal with any queries. The gite will be open, with the keys inside the door. The layout of the gite and our property means that there is good distancing at all times. Parking is beside the gite and separate from our own parking. On departure we will rely on guests to inform us of any damage. Cleaning need only be superficial as we will be carrying out a thorough clean ourselves.

We are both fully vaccinated against COVID.

As a location, we are very well placed so that guests can make the most of the area with minimal interaction with other people. Walking in the mountains can take place immediately above the gite; for those who wish to cycle, the gite is within 2 kms of the Annecy - Albertville Piste Cyclable. Supermarkets are nearby in Faverges, 3 kms away. At the moment (15 May 2020) it is not clear what restrictions will be in place regarding visits to the lake and its beaches.
***********
The lake offers ample opportunities for water sports including swimming (the water temperature in July is around 25C), sailing, wake boarding, kayaking and fishing. The local mountains provide a wonderful playground for walking, canyoning, climbing, including Via Ferrata, and mountain biking. A number of walking routes start immediately above the gite. The views are, of course, quite stunning and include opportunities to see the Mount Blanc massive. Walking can take you up to over 2400 metres; cycling to around 1650 metres, higher if you travel towards the Maurienne valley. Locally, the chair lift for Mount Sambuy (2198 m), above Faverges, operates in the summer months. The walking and views from around the summit are truly spectacular. Guided tours are provided around the summit with the chance of seeing a Marmot.

Lake Annecy has many beaches around its periphery. The nearest is at Bout de Lac, 10 kms away. It has everything you need for a day beside or on the lake. St Jorioz has a the only sandy beach. There is a charge of 2,30 but the facilities make it well worth it. On the other side of the lake in Angon and Talloires, there are 2 other beaches, both of which charge for entry, but which also have great facilities for a day out. All around the lake are other municipal beaches which are free of charge. Some are small, others quite large and provide the basic facilities such as toilets. The south-east corner of the lake has a long stretch where it is possible to park immediately beside the lake and swim.

Alternatively, if you just want to chill and take in the mountain scenery, the patio right outside the gite allows you to do just that. We are situated away from any main roads so peace and quiet is a given.

Away from the lake there are many sights of interest. The chateau at Menthon is well worth a visit as is the Gorge de Fier. Slightly further afield is Beaufort, famous for its magnificent cheese and gateway to the mountains and the Cormet de Roselend lake, one of the most beautiful in the Beaufortain alps. Closer to the gite is the Bauges national park. This mountain area has some lovely scenery as well as many small villages to explore. It is ideal for walking and cycling.

To the south of the gite lies Albertville and beyond, Chambery. Between the two are many Savoie vineyards, all of which sell their wines and offer tastings to visitors. The D road which winds its way through the vineyards is very scenic and a great cycle ride.

For keen or not so keen cyclists there are a wealth of opportunities to challenge yourself with the local alpine climbs, many of which are used in the Tour de France, or to just saunter along the “piste cyclable” all the way along lake Annecy to Annecy itself and explore this charming old town. The cycle path now goes around about 65% of the lake and is on course to completely circumnavigate the lake by 2020. The cycle path is 1.6 km from us. It also extends south to Ugine and then onwards to Albertville on designated cycle paths sharing quiet back roads with traffic. The cycle path is not hilly. This is because it was a railway line between Annecy and Albertville and gradients had to be gradual so the steam trains could cope.

Our 50m2 Gite has a bedroom with a double bed and single bed. In the living room there is a bunk bed and single bed providing options for a family or group of friends which will ensure a relaxing and rewarding break. We recommend that no more than 5 adults stay with us. For families, a total of 6 is acceptable with a minimum of 2 children. The kitchen has all the facilities you need for eating al fresco in front of the gite or for preparing a picnic for a day out. A separate shower and WC complete the picture. Bed linen and towels are provided free of charge. A complimentary bottle of wine is provided upon arrival.

**New for 2020 - Electric car charging point.**

The nearest supermarkets are 2 kms away in Faverges. These are Intermarche, Carrefour and Lidl. The town has numerous banks/ATMs and all the facilities you would expect, including a tourist office. There is a market on Wednesday mornings which sells local produce, cheese and meats, amongst other items.

In the winter months, we are an ideal location for exploring the area and for access to some of the best ski resorts in the Alps. The nearest is Mt Sambuy, just above Faverges, which is only a 20 minute drive. Crest-Voland/Les Saises and La Clusaz are 35 minutes and Megeve 40 minutes. Within an hour are the remainder of the Aravis and Chamonix ski domains.

Gorgeous area
We had a wonderful time in this beautiful area of France. Hosts were very helpful and fun to get to know. Be aware that there is no TV which did not bother us but some people may be unhappy about that. Beautiful view from the chalet. We loved hearing the church bells. Did not want to leave!

Beautiful Gite in a Beautiful St. Ferreol neighbourhood.
From the start, Ken and his wife Manchun have been communicative and helpful with direction to their place. The Gite or we would prefer to call chalet is located on a hill with beautiful mountainous scenery surrounded it. Ken had been very helpful to suggest places to visit to great details including some free parking areas. The place is spacious and clean with complete kitchen equipments for a long stay. We were glad to choose their place and make new friends. Will highly recommend this place if someone has or rents a car.

Ideal location for a relaxing or active summer holiday in the mountains or on and around Lac Annecy
A rustic Gite that provides all you need for your stay. Ideal for couples or a small family, car essential as it's off the beaten track up the hill behind Saint-Ferreol offering great views in a very peaceful relaxing location. Nearest shops for daily bread etc. just 5 mins drive away in Faverges. The owners, Ken and Manchun, are very welcoming and knowledgeable of the area providing many suggestions for great days out. We had a very enjoyable 2-week stay exploring the great scenery that the Haute-Savoie offers.

Fantastic location and great hosts!
The apartment is ideally situated: close enough to Annecy for ease of access but far enough away to ensure tranquility and peace. Favergy is a short drive away with numerous facilities including an Intermache with fuel station and Lidle. The apartment is warm and cosy and well equipped. Ken and Manchun kindly offered to pick up some basic food supplies for our first night as we would be arriving late. There was also a bottle of wine and some sweets for the kids awaiting us which was a very thoughtful touch. All the beds were made up ready for our arrival which was great. Ken is a lovely person with a wealth of interesting and useful information about the area which assisted us in enjoying our time there to the full. We wouldn't have known about several things we enjoyed immensely if it hadn't been for Ken's tips and advise!! It was beneficial to have our hosts 'on site' just in case something was needed yet the apartment is private and we never felt intruded upon. The area of Annecy and the mountain ranges are beautiful with much to do and see. We will definitely be back to explore more, maybe in the Summer next time so that we can swim in the lake. Thank you Ken and Manchun for helping to make our stay a very enjoyable one!

Self-contained apartment with magnificent views and very helpful and amenable hosts
Sited on the mountainside overlooking the village of San Ferreol, the apartment is on the ground floor of an Alpine chalet home, with wonderful views across the valley to the mountains on the opposite side. The apartment is well equipped and perfect for a couple or a young family. Ken and Manchon are very good hosts, welcoming, friendly and very helpful. When I had the misfortune to write off a tyre on my car, Ken made many phone calls for me and ensured that I received excellent service from the tyre depot in nearby Annecy. He was also able to make suggestions for activities including a beautiful walk with views and chest-expanding exercise. In addition, he recommended and advised on a trip to the "Mere de Glace" at Chamonix. Manchon, meanwhile provide luscious samples of "Moon cakes"to eat with our coffee. All in all, a great stay, the only drawback being that we didn't have long enough.

Lovely place to spend a week
My partner and I had the wonderful week staying here. The apartment was spacious, well equipped and had beautiful views, with a sunny terrace. The host, Ken and Manchun, were welcoming and friendly, with plenty of helpful information about the local area. St Ferreol is a quiet village but is perfectly located for exploring the Annecy area: the lake and the old town of Annecy are not far. If you like walking or cycling, or just want to relax in the midst of stunning scenery, then this is ideal.

Beautiful location and welcoming host
The property is perfect distance away from Lake Annecy so that it is convenient to get to the lake and shops/cafes etc when you want but that it provides peace and quiet too. It is located half was up a hill and this provides you with stunning views of the surrounding area. The gite is equipped with everything you need and is comfortable and clean. There is a large main room with a sofa that can be used as a bed, comfortable chairs and a coffee table. Located the other side of this room is the kitchen area and a large kitchen table and chairs that would comfortably seat six people. There is a full sized oven and grill which you can use either as gas or electric or both and a microwave if you prefer. Also supplied is a kettle, coffee maker, toaster, iron, full sized fridge freezer and a washing machine which is extremely helpful if you cycle. The bedroom has plenty of cupboard space and there is lots of additional bedding provided to cover all temperatures. The bathroom has a shower toilet and sink. The gite is heated with adjustable radiators and the host left the heating on and left it to us to control the individual radiators. We found this provided the perfect temperature for us. The host Ken was happy to share his knowledge of both walking and cycling with us and was kind enough to take us on a bike ride around the lake pointing out places of interest as we went. We took up a number of his suggestions including walking up nearby Col de la Forclaz, cycling up Col de l'Arpettaz with it's numerous hairpins, and catching the train to the top of Montenvers-Mer de Glace to see the glacier located in Chamonix. There are plenty of other things to do and the local area is fascinating and beautiful. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a peaceful holiday, in beautiful countryside and particularly walkers and cyclists. Reading others reviews complaining about the lack of curtains and the church bells ringing - we would suggest using the traditional wooden shutters on the gite which block out all the light and we found the church bells to be unobtrusive and pleasing on the ear. If we return to this area of France would certainly use again.

a Friendly warm welcome on a cold Alpine day
It was a miserable rainy cold day as we finally arrived after a long trip from Paris. The owner and his wife was waiting for us with a bottle of red wine from the region placed on the table. Our little apartment was well heated, clean and comfortably furnished just as it was advertised. The owner gave us an orientation of the facilities and we settled in before dark. The next morning we woke up to enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery. There are many well marked hiking paths in close proximity of the apartment with amazing mountain views. Lake Annecy is only a short distance away. If you are a cycling enthusiast the well marked bike paths in close proximity of the village will be a great source of enjoyment. Throughout our stay the owner and his wife was very helpful and assisted us with whatever we needed. They are well acquainted with the area and being a cyclist himself the owner is keen to share his knowledge of the region. We had a very relaxing pleasant stay and would recommend this facility to anyone that enjoy the mountains. Just be aware that there is no bakery in the village itself and to buy bread you need to drive about 5 min to the closest bakery. This was never a problem for us as we always got the bread on our way back from our outings. The apartment is furnished to handle 5 people. We stay there with our teenage son and it was sufficient for us. It is definitely one of the places that we would go back to. This is the best value for money for a stay in the Alps.
